My Review: Ekk main aur ekk tuAbhinav kumar | February 13, 2012, 2:06 AM | 3 comments | 0 views
I had sworn..i had sworn and yes i did swear…that enough from Imran…enough of his usual rom-coms- gal meets boy,few hanky banky talks, song at the onset of a beautiful landscape and sometimes surrounded by bikini babes, then their usual intermission realization- ” OH I M IN LOVE..SUNLE ZARAA…DILL NE KAHAA…ITNAA BUSSS MUJHE PATAA HAII” ….followed by the usual gore-tanhaii-ful 2nd half uploaded wid family favour/non-favour and then the ultimate pre-climax realization ki awwww baby!!! We actually are made-for-each-other bakwaas and oh come on lets end up the crap wid a hug(sometimes accompanied by a kiss) Curtains down!! Applause anyone??
Boy! That’s what bollywood has been upto lately!! Starting from dont know where, but i remember it wid dreadful expectations i did purchased that hard-earned ticket to watch something as they say “ITS DIFFERENT” . “SOME HATKE FUN”. But dat was never received during the plight of the day. And i still managed to find that pretty a gud tympass- ANJAANA ANJAANI , I HATE LOVE STORIES(yeah i really do), BREAK KE BAAD, MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN, and..now that brings me to the new release Ek main aur ekk tu. Earlier titled as short-term shaadi(for god-knows wat reason).
Karan Johar is synonymous wid a feel good entertainer. He has somehow managed to make people groove into “the paisa-vasool territory”. The more recent being AGNEEPATH which i had loved immensely. But one needs to be a smart-ass if you are again mish-mashing the done-to-death plot of gal-meets-boy saga. And here Kjo along wid his debutante team of writers & director Shakun Batra more or less succeeds in the endeavor.
To start wid, the crux of the story here is borrowed(a better term) from WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS! which is weekly being shown on star movies. And few important portions of the film are also a lift from FRIENDS series. Wow!! Now the question arises- ab bachaa kyaa?? ab bachaa kyaa??And the answer lies in the TREATMENT. Oh and thats the only thing that makes your everyday- rom-com different. Yeah u dont have the usual mumbai traffic signals to begin your scene wid, but a beautiful commentary by Imran introducing u to the different kinds of childhood. A perfect setting, wid his economics-friendly parents being quiet comfortably enacted by the 2 superbs- Boman Irani & Ratna Pathak Shah. U have a beginning of an all same yet different world. The ever-nostalgic GEET from JAB WE MET is given a PART 2 life in the form of Raina Briganza’s character. Man!! And Kareena never looked more beautiful and cute at the same time. Watch out for her mid-night scene wid Imran and you realize that yesss!! There’s the BEBO worth my ticket for.
The beautiful never-asleep city of Las Vegas is beautifully captured by David McDonald and there in lies the beauty of the film. U never would have felt happier when the movie changed the continents in between. Yes!! Its beautifully depicted.
On the negatives, like any other rom-flick, the 2nd half becomes slow and clitched and sudden introduction of few characters does make u feel the other way. The biggest save of this half is the AUNTY JI number which couldn’t have been more energetic and well choreographed and well composed. Amit trivedi agains uplifts a film from mediocricity and gives a soothing GUBBARE, AAHATEIN and an ear-pleasing background score.
The climax will have its share of holders and advocates. But to me,, that was the most brilliant aspect from the writers and anything except that would have really reduced my rating for this film. EMAET is not saved by EKK or TWO things but more than those couple of aspects- the cinematography, music, performances and at the end THE END( or as they say THE BEGINNING)
I rate it 3 out of 5 stars to Ek main aur ekk tu. A decent, breezy and for-the-youth date-flick which should not be missed this Valentines-week. Give it a try and u myt feel embracing the simplicity of it.
