It is not huge achievement that 3I crossed MNIK in Overseas. 3I came in 2009 and MNIK in 2010. With less than half WOM compared to 3I it beat 3I in Overseas. Now that 3I is releasing in new markets it was always expected it will beat MNIK easily.

“3 IDIOTS is still to explore European NON-Traditional markets” It means with MNIK SRK explored European NON-Traditional markets which was alien to Bollywood. SRK has done so much for Bollywood in abroad, while other actors movies release only in main centres like UK, USA, Australia and U.A.E while SRK movies releases in new markets and open doors for Bollywood so that other actors movies also get release their. Whatever be the thing in Overseas Indians watch the movie not locals, but SRK has reached where others hasn’t reached and for Indians has opened door of Bollywood so that they can watch movies in cinema which didn’t use to happen earlier.

End of the day in MNIK SRK was their and he will get credit end of the story. So no need to get hyper and emotional. Plus it was truth not lecture.

It is funny how you guys cook up arguments to undermine 3 Idiots achievement! The film had been doing rounds on internet in China since last 2 years! Most downloaded film, most viewed film on video-sharing websites – still people are watching it in theatres! It’s been shown on TV in several countries, pirated DVDs are everywhere, still it managed to beat the record – if this is not achievement then what is? And it achieved all this, even despite releasing in less number of countries than MNIK! 3I was never promoted as some global film and never marketed as crazily as MNIK internationally, yet it gained popularity and broke records. Commendable achievement.

As far as subject is concerned then the same factor applies to MNIK! We will see if Ra One or any other SRK film manages to make waves in countries like Bahrain like MNIK did! MNIK’s subject also had crucial role in its success!

As far as Europe is concerned, 3 Idiots DVD is selling well in Germany and 3 Idiots is already most watched Indian movie on Spanish site and is among highest rated movies of all time on that site!

@Harish – Yes SRK did a lot. But others are not behind. TZP got record ratings when it was shown on RAI Uno channel in Italy last year – it was most watched program on TV, beating all Italian movies, TV shows and even Hollywood movies. And with Lagaan, Indian movies gained lot of attention from media and movie-lovers worldwide.
In UAE etc., Salman’s movies have had great run.
It’s not right to solely give all credit to SRK, when even in past films of Raj Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan etc. have gained popularity in foreign countries.

BTW, if 3I has crossed MNIK it just has. So what’s the need to bring SRK in it and talk of his contribution to Bollywood? Any problem with 3I having all records in its kitty?
