[welcome to the ultimate indian film community]

Just came watching Dabangg in a single screen theatre. My expectation from the movie was very high. Heard a lot of things about Dabangg. It has smashed 3 Idiots 1st week record, Salman khan was at his best in the movie, the song picturisations were really good, great acting from the supportive starcast, and many many many more things. The theatre was 15-20% full. Thought due to 2nd Saturday the craze is a bit less. Firstly I would like to apolizise from my heart to all NG members, Indian audience who has given Dabangg a huge respect, to all critics who has given Dabangg huge ratings, to all Sallu fans, to all those who loved Dabangg. Now lets come to the main point. The movie has disappointed me to a large extent. The movie is not only bad, its very bad. Its not worth watching. Leave aside 3 Idiots it cannot even be compared with Wanted. Is this a movie??? What is there in it. No story, no script, no acting Even the picturisation was at its worst. Many people felt it’s a total Salman Khan movie. There is Salman on the screen all the time but pardon me where is his acting. It’s the style he is showing on the screen all the way. Where is his acting skill??? Just watch Sallu’s style & nothing else. Rest of the starcast is totally wasted. Om Puri, Vinod Khanna, Mahesh Manjarekar, Arbaaz Khan, Dimple Kapadia & even Sonu Sood. No one did justice to their role. Sonu Sood found it hard to carry on the role of the bihari bhaiya. The only attraction was Sonakshi Sinha. She is really charming & did justice to her role. The music was just OK & nothing more than that. The only song which I liked most was Munni Badnam. The last 15-20 mins is watchble only because of the action part. Rest of the movie is just intolerable. In between I felt to walk out of the theatre. What is this going on??? Father commits suicide to make her daughter marry with a police inspector. The daughter on the other hand instead of shedding tears went away with the police inspector not even knowing his name. I mean what is this. This is a movie which not even deserves a negative rating. A movie at its worst. Even the picturisation was so bad that you cant even enjoy the locations & surroundings. How can the critics give it 4/5 rating? I am totally surprised with what has happened. If Dabangg gets 4/5 rating then MNIK deserves more than 5, Peepli Live deserves more than 10. My earnest request to all those who haven’t watch Dabangg yet. Don’t waste your money behind this crap movie. Its not worth watching on DVD even. I love Salman Khan very much. I really liked him in HDDCS,  MPK,  MPKK, HAHK, Karan Arjun, Partner, MSK, Saajan even Wanted. But Dabangg is just intolerable. Hope next time I can enjoy him whatever movie he does.

    Hahahah Aayush,
just wait for tomorrow I also wanted to discuss these fectors.
Tomorrow I will re write the review of Dabangg in a critical point of view.
agree with ur review. Movie has bunch of flaws in its screenplay but for masala movie everything is forgivable.

Aayush ur views are fine but i dont think so it is enough to say that movie is bad acting is bad , screenplay is bad.
If you want to say these things then you have to proof it as well which I will proof tomorrow.
Kal main Dabangg ki aisi bajaoon ga ke sab yaad rakhien ge. I was waiting for 2nd week when almost every one would have watch it.

Agreed completely Aayush. From your review, it looks like you are “shocked’ at how the movie turned out. This was the SAME reaction I had. I thought it would be great and all, but it turned out to be beyond bad for me with no script and lot of other stuff.

To think About it, Salman’s performance is being so overrated, that it is no longer funny. He gave a good performance but to tell that he was effing brilliant and all is kinda too much. Salman Khan wasnt Chulbul. Chulbul was made looking at Salman.

    Auyush

I appreciate your views. I didn’t watch this movie…didn’t want to waste my time and well earned money. However I find that a lot of ppl watch movies regardless of content. They get sucked in with the pull of the star and marketing/PR.

The attitude among stars nowadays is that they dnt have to make a good film but they have to make a successful film or like Akshay once said ‘as i long i recoup my producers money that is enough for me’. Maybe thats why he’s been making crap movies since 2007..just a thought ;)

There are only a few stars who try to make good movies, those who actually care for the audience. The majority however are in it for the money/fame

Nice to read your views Ayush. Some time i wonder, do we need critics to review movie ? Movies are very personal watching experience and based on your state of mind at that particular point of time, your expectations, your range of acceptance, your vision, quality of theater, projector condition, sound quality, AC working or not ? , your health at that point of time, Your relationship status with wife/girlfriend before stepping in theater, The company/group of people you carry along for movie, Audience you are sitting with, Food you have taken that day(Any lose motions ?) , Money you spent on movie, If you are with your GF you got chance to kiss in between ? (Else movie is plain bad) , How sharp is your GF nails, is girl next to your seat is better looking than your GF ? Nothing like klpd happens to you during movie …….. Uffffff so many factors …. I don’t guess critics are spare of these factors …. they are also human and carry similar upside of emotions ……

Yakuza Bhai, thats why you dont give reviews.
But if I talk abt myself then i would like to say mood never effected on the movie for me. Every movie is new , fresh and unique task. Just now watched Aashaiyen .
I dont know why i loved it. I found it best movie of 2010. May be you guys will make fun on me but it is true. Slow pace , John’s acting and different theme made it unique.
After Dor loved Nagesh Kokonoor again. screenplay is main thing which is very strong and balanced. It was really hard to write this kind of script.
my rating for Aashaiyen is 4/5

First post. Have followed the forum for a year as a silent observer. Introducing myself as yet another Salman fan
    and box-office follower.

    Salman Fan
Watched Sallu in Judwaa. Then watched PKTDK and HDDCS followed soon after. He had won many followers at the time and I was no exception. Been waiting for Salman to deliver a blockbuster for a while now – Partner was his last. Wanted had in it to be a true blockbuster – but fell a little short due to below average performance at plexes. With failures in LD and Veer, had written him off as a plex and overseas crowd puller – but as a fan knew I would watch all his movies irrespective of BO performance.Come 2010 and Salman does the unimaginable. Breaks 3 Idiots first week domestic record! It’s no easy feat. The movie still had to gross 30+ crore in the weekdays to make it to the top and so it did!

    Dabangg Movie:
Hard to review Bollywood movies as i don’t watch many in the first place. But usually go in for an experience and good moments. Luckily Dabangg had lots of good stuff and made for an entertaining watch. The loud whistling and hooting at Salman’s introduction was something you don’t get to see in overseas plexes. It was nothing short of pretty cool stuff really.People have criticized certain scenes especially Mahesh death. He anyways wanted to die which was shown in train station sequence when he was drunk and he wanted to be run over by a train. Also, Sonakshi not knowing Salman’s name till they were married was more to create a moment of laughter and audience sure went bezerk. But in saying that, go to small villages in India and yes, girls get married without even seeing the guy let alone getting to know them, so what’s in a name? Movie seemed trimmed down and a few crucial scenes have perhaps been sacrificed to keep a short runtime. People passing this film as trash and bad, well that’s their viewpoint but if the movie has shown such huge numbers on the weekdays, it’s a clear indication that such people exist in minority only and general WOM is great.

    Dabangg Box Office Performance:
Dabangg had smash hit written all over it once the weekend numbers were out. Before the release any Salman fan or even Arbaaz himself would have taken 80cr domestic lifetime with open arms. It would have meant smash hit status. But with potential total of 120-130cr in sight, it’s going to be a fight between Blockbuster and ATB status. With such a mammoth opening, everyone is shocked. Comparisons are being made with only one movie – the biggest grosser in the history of Indian cinema and how badly do some want Dabangg to leave that record untouched. It’s not going to get there, that should be known by now. But it is going to occupy 2nd or 3rd place and that’s certain too with a guaranteed minimum classication of Blockbuster. To sustain at such levels, it’s extremely tough. All top openers this year could not double their first week earnings (Rajneeti, Houseful, Kites, My Name is Khan etc) domestically so if Dabangg does not get to 160cr, it doesn’t mean it hasn’t tracked well. Fact is it has crossed lifetime grosses of all movies except 3 or 4 in its first week and that is a HUGE ACHIEVEMENT in all respects.

For fellow analysts and box office trackers who have disliked Dabangg, it can get tough at times when you hate a film so much and it excels so well that it becomes personal to see to it that your point disapproval is expressed in a public domain. So much has been said about how Dabangg has declined with respect to 3 Idiots during weekdays. But why ignore the fact that 3 idiots released during holidays and why not compare Dabangg with any other blockbuster besides 3 idiots, then match numbers of Dabangg, you will get the picture pretty easily. BOI has predicted 6.25cr on 8th day Friday (that’s how much hits like APKGK, Wanted and many others did on opening day) so numbers are good to very good.

As a fan, there are many ways I can justify Salman’s star power (still delivers big hits once every 1 or 2 years), yes there are numerous flops in between but number of big hits are steady too.. His career has always been like that. He delivered big flops throughout his career but then came back so many times to deliver humungous hits. It’s tough now as he gets older, but then so are the other Khans and with Dabangg, he has proved he is no far behind than the very best.

Akb, how come ur comments twice here?
Yes boss. loved Aashayen . If movie got proper promotion and good releasing time It could win the race or If it had any super star like SRK or Aamir it could blast on the theaters.
Is any one else here who loved Aashaiyen ?

akshay gets sabotaged for making masala films and is always looked in every detail like story, silly scenes, but when others do it, they get away with it with comments like oh its a fun film, that we should not question every logic. This is just double standard.

Iam not getting into how Akki movies are treated agree with most of the points but yes Salman’s style and acting was there to pull it off but as discussed many a times it is a movie with no cohesive story but from one highlight to another highligt to bore hona ka chance nahi tha – the main reason itis loved.,
While atching it first day first show at many times i felt WTF is happening bt then Salman was there with his mast dialogues and antiq to take away WTF feeling.

For me, I can’t bear any “stupid” movie though I can excuse some illogical scenes if the movie is good enough. Like for Eg, Welcome had few Illogical scenes but it was a pretty Solid Entertaining movie with some Hillarious moments so those illogical scenes are forgivable But I will never forgive a “Stupid story/Plot” movie no matter what “fun” is there in the movie. Like for eg Raja Hindustani. This is the worst movie of Aamir’s career IMO. Or a CC2C or a KI.

Similarly, I cant bear a movie like Dabangg.. Just because there are some punch lines and few OTT action scenes will not make me entertained and like it.. The plot has to be good or atleast decent.
