Movie – We Are Family
Director – Sidharth Malhotra
Cast – Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal
Here is my review of the movie “We Are Family.†Movie is being produced by Dharma Productions i.e., a Karan Johar movie, hence you can expect the melodrama. The movie is about a divorced couple with kids and husband having a girl friend.
Movie starts painfully slow with 3 kids which are under possession of a divorced wife – Maya (Kajol). She is divorced to Aman (Arjun Rampal), a fashion photographer. Even after separation Aman tries to be with his children as much as he can. Aman is in love with Shreya (Kareena Kapoor) a fashion designer.
Aman is trying to get Shreya in the life of his children, as he cannot live without his kids and Shreya. That’s when Shreya enters life of their family. And of course Maya does not want her kids love being shared by someone else. But a tragic development changes their lives and Maya is forced to part her love of kids with Shreya.
Without going into much detail about the story (which unfortunately fits in only one para), I would like to give some inputs with respect to the movie altogether. First half is decent with terribly slow start but picks up later. 2nd half drags and drags and drags. The story doesn’t go anywhere in 2nd half, literally. Director Sidharth Malhotra gives one silver-screen Saas-Bahu sob in We Are Family. The one who likes small-screen Saas-Bahu may find this one a little interesting, but unfortunately they are not in majority, including me. The songs are again a low point in the movie. Dialogs are decent. Screenplay and story is written by somebody who was half-sleep while penning it.
If we talk about performance, than the silver lining for the movie is right there. Kajol’s performance as Maya is like heart and brain of the movie. If at all the movie can be bared than its because of Kajol. She gives an excellent performance. She was brilliant as dominating mom, jealous mom, a jealous wife and as a helpless person. Kareena Kapoor plays her part very well. She has a tremendous screen presence. Arjun Rampal is totally disappointing in the movie. He was just sleep-walking as Aman in the movie. The 3 kids did better job.
On the whole movie is a disappointment considering it comes from a reputable banner and having class A actors in it.
A little piece of advise to Mr. Karan Johar. Move to India! Its Indians who have migrated to other parts of the world and not that Indians have migrated to India.
Verdict – 1 and half stars out of 5. Reason – Kajol.
