New Delhi, Feb 8 (IANS) Stating that nobody would be allowed to disrupt the release of superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s “My Name Is Khan”, Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan Monday dared the Vishwa Hindu Parishad to stop its screening, saying he will watch the movie with his family.
“Nobody can take the law into their hands. We will take action if somebody is issuing such threats. The law will take its course, let them say whatever they want,” Chavan told reporters here.
“I will also go to see the movie along with my family members,” he said.
The VHP’s threat came a day after Bal Thackeray’s Shiv Sena decided not to oppose the release of “My Name Is Khan”.
“People of India must boycott ‘My Name Is Khan’ as Shah Rukh Khan is a traitor. He is a Pakistani agent,” VHP leader Pravin Togadia said.
He threatened that posters of the film would be torn down.
“My Name Is Khan”, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, is set for release Friday

I think what makes the whole matter even worse, for these right wing groups, is the film in question. The lack of the common man’s interest in news and politics, leads a situation of misinformation or sceneraios of half-truths. Many will get the impression, that SS, VHP, Bajrang Dal et al are creating this whole drama coz of the film, its subject and its content. As it is they have anti-Muslim reputation (rightly or wrongly), this will only add to teh fuel. Ofcourse BJP’s alliance to some of these groups makes it all worse for them as well, specially killing its aspirations of becoming an all-India national party inclusive of all communities.
Now, had it been an OSO or a KANK, it’d be an entirely different case.

I m not sure how much to that Sambhaji story is true… that he was tortured and killed by Aurangzeb is no secret.. but the actual details are very fuzzy to say the least. But then, even if it true, it shouldn’t surprise anyone the way the Mughals (and the other Mulim/Hindu empires of the time) tortured their own blood relatives, they’re bound to do the same with enemies they fought long wars with. Specially Aurangzeb who didn’t even leave his own father, his brothers or even his sons.
