(I have always said, there are enough screens for TWO big projects so I just for wish KITES & HOUSEFULL to stay put.

We have already seen Akshay vs Salman, Akshay vs Amir and Akshay vs SRK twice, so let us have it vs Hrithik. Will be quite interesting. Knowing the stubborn Sajid Khan, he wont shift.)

‘Kites’ release date shifted again

Just last week we had reported that KITES has been confirmed for 14th May release. The official news was shared with this writer by the distributors of the film. Now here’s the latest development: The release date has been revised yet again. The film has been shifted ahead, by one week precisely, and will now arrive on 21st May. The news has been confirmed by the distributors to this writer.

Okay, now here’s something interesting! With KITES now arriving on 21st May, it will now clash with the multi-starrer HOUSEFULL, directed by Sajid Khan, which has been confirmed for 20th May [Thursday]. Will we witness a royal clash on 21st May? Or will either of them shift to another date? Incidentally, Prakash Jha has confirmed RAAJNEETI on 28th May.

   No. Kites and Housefull has just too much money riding on them. Together, there is like 100+ crores (Just Indian distribution cost) riding on them. Also, only a small movie vs a big movie ends well. No two big budget movie are successful. We have seen this. TZP vs Welcome and Lagaan vs Gadar were different. TZP was low budget.

   Also, 3 Idiots is having the biggest first week of 80 crores. That means even if these two movies do best, both will probably earn in the range of 40-44 crores each in first week because screens and timings will be split.

   Kites and Housefull can both work, if they are good enough. We have seen many examples of TWO hits a week.

   Lagaan-Gadar, Ghayal – Dil, TZP-Welcome etc. Even Aitraaz survived against Veer Zaara.

   All these hits were different. But both Housefull and Kites have lots of Cash riding on them. Its just not possible for them to recover it if they clash especially for Kites.

   TZP was a low budget masterpiece against a masala entertainer.
   Lagaan was again an offbeat masterpiece against a masala entertainer Gadar
   But both Housefull and Kites are masala entertainers? Will both survive?

   Sajid Khan has cannounced that Housefull has been preponed to 30th April … Kites on 21th May gives 3 weeks gap between two movies.

   Rajneeti is no threat to these biggies, doesnt matter when it releases.
