What was different in the movie (3i) than the book?

1). FPS dealth only with the college life of 3 friends. 3i dealt with their lives after the college years as well. It dealt with the search of 3rd friend.

2). In FPS – Ryan (aka rancho in 3i) is not a topper. In 3i, he is shown as a genuis and a topper.

3). In FPS – Hari (aka farhaan in 3i) falls in love with Neha (aka pia in 3i) and even makes love to her during the college life. In 3i – this plot is completely different.

4). There were no songs in FPS ( :-) ) – in 3i….well.

5). All those detailed dialogues and screenplay – one can’t say that it is a line-by-line copy of the book.

These are few striking differences I feel at the moment – in the nutshell, Chetan’s allegation that 70% of the book is reflected in the film is NOT TRUE at the same time – makers’ claim (that is if they have claimed that – we know this now only from Chetan’s mouth) that only 2-3% of the book reflects in the movie – that is ALSO NOT TRUE.

    Sister was telling me that 3 Idiots was like 30-40% similar to FPS. And lots were added to the smilar scene. Like for eg, there was never a wedding scene, never a delivery scene, Raju character attempts suicide when they are rusticated for leaking papers, Raju doesnt get Paralized, The speech isnt there, there is no peeing on Professors letter box, etc. I think both Chetan and the original write + Hirani deserves credit. Like how Ashu kept giving credit to a gujrati novel for WYR, VVC should have done the same.. But now the issue is blown out of proportion with Chetan tweeting to glory with all sentimental messages….

    I am so glad people like Vir Sanghvi are now coming out in support of Chetan. The author will win this battle, I am so sure.

    its like saying this x movie was not this much copied from hollywood as it had lot of song and dances

    more than 70% of the movie is a rip off from five point someone and even before the movie chetan himself in many of editorials in some of the leading news papers discussed the same about indian education system which makes up the integral idea of the movie

    may be chetan a loser here then what is aamir khan here the guy who is using the idea for commercial gain and using his verses and idea about indian education system ( straight after amol gupte’s incident in tzp this is nothing new)

    btw one has to realise you just can’t fool all people together

    movie is partially inspired from FPS and various other so called scenes are direct rip off of various other hollywood movies with scent of women immediately comes to mind

    raju guide, thanks – happy new year to you and everyone here including Chetan Bhagat :-)

    on a lighter note – those 5 songs means 25 minutes and the entire wangdoo track and search for him means another 45 minutes – so out of 170 min. – 70 min. entirely belong to raju hirani and team :-)

    for the remaining 100 min. – they can fight – although chetan bhagat himself wrote the script of HELLO and it was a SUPER-DISASTER :-) and now someone has made an interesting script out of his book – and he wants credit – ha…ha…ha… Chetan BUGG(er)AT :-)
