If Aamir decides to attend the award ceremonies this year, then all the Best Actor awards are going to him, even though Big B was classic as Auro..

There are so many things wrong with this nominations. 99 does not have a single nomination.

    Best Film
Love Aaj Kal should not be nominated just for that one stupid scene of “Main Tumse Baad mein maafi maang loongi”.
Paa should not be nominated either because it was silly too. A 6ft tall Progeria kid when in reality they are really small, the line “Thank God I did not have a condom that day” and the ridiculous saath pheras with Auro as the agni.

    R. Balki and Imtiaz Ali should not be nominated either for the above reasons.

    Best Actor
Aamir needs to withdraw from the nominations like Lata and Asha. This is just hypocrisy when he has a problem with attending the award ceremony but has no problem with the nomination or the award itself. Ranbhir should have been nominated for Wake Up Sid instead of the two nominations. Amitabh though very good got great help with the cosmetic make up but it also stopped him from displaying any expressions on his face. They should have made him look shorter ala Kamal Haasan in Appu Raja too. Shahid is the deserving one this year.

    Best Actress
Kareena Kapoor had hardly any role in 3 Idiots. She should have been nominated for Kurbaan (which was a horrible movie) instead.
This has got to be a big joke – Katrina Kaif getting nominated for New York and Deepika Padukone for her dumb blank expressions in Love Aaj Kal.

    Best Supporting Actor
Rishi Kapoor should not have been nominated for Love Aaj Kal, he was excellent in Luck By Chance and should win for it though.

    Best Supporting Actress
Where is Dimple Kapadia? She was the best this year in Luck By Chance. Has Raat Gayi Baat Gayi released yet?

    Best Comic
Paresh Rawal (De Dana Dan) and Sanjay Mishra (All The Best) were both annoying. Where is Amit Mistry for 99. Omi is the sureshot winner though.

    Music
None of the songs from Pritam (Love Aaj Kal) were original.

    The Most Promising Newcomer Male
Why is Abhimanyu Singh not nominated here? He is the deserving one this year. Why is Amole Gupte nominated here instead of the in the negative role category.

    The Most Promising Newcomer Female
Mahie Gill (Dev D) hands down.

You are calling this ‘hypocrisy’ when Aamir wouldn’t even attend the award function???? What kind of logic is this? Aamir not only skips these awards, he doesn’t give two shit about them? Why should he withdraw from something he doesn’t care about???

“You are calling this ‘hypocrisy’ when Aamir wouldn’t even attend the award function???? What kind of logic is this? Aamir not only skips these awards, he doesn’t give two shit about them? Why should he withdraw from something he doesn’t care about???”

Check out the 3rd video in the link at 2min 45 sec. Before the 1992 Filmfare Awards starts, Aamir said “one should be happy even if they don’t receive an award as it is someone else from their fraternity who receives an award”. He even performed “Ghungat Ki Aad Se” from his upcoming film HHRPK. Guess what? When he did not receive the award that year for Best Actor, he stopped attending the awards.
    http://www.tanqeed.com/movies/aamirawards.cfm

I guess that explains the hypocrisy. I don’t understand why he keeps getting nominated when he does not care for the awards. Lata and Asha do not keep getting nominated for Filmfare awards because Lata withdrew from Filmfare awards in 1970 and Asha in 1978.

“If he is not interested in the nominations why does he not tell Filmfare to stop nominating him. Lata Mangeshkar withdrew from nominations back in the seventies. Asha Bhonsle withdrew from nominations back in 78. They nominate him and he gets free press and publicity because he does not attend. If he does not win, he is vindicated saying that the awards are biased and if he wins someone else comes and accepts the award. What happens next? Do they give it to Aamir or throw it in the trash?”

    rks,
I initially thought so too. But then I read this old interview of Aamir on rediff.

    Aamir on RGV

“I think he was feeling insecure because I was getting a lot of credit for the film’s success. Strangely, at a party to celebrate the film’s release he had thanked me profusely for my help in the making of the film. With tears in his eyes he had said things like ‘I don’t know if I’ll be able to work again with an actor of your commitment level… I’ll always remember the relationship. As a director I have learnt so much about film-making from you…I think you should get the Filmfare award this year…’

I was quite embarrassed with his emotional outburst and I mumbled something about just having done my job. When I told him I don’t attend the Filmfare function he said he’d collect the award on my behalf!!

Why he changed his opinion about me four months down the line he would know best. ”

Aamir’s explanation for not doing Darr in the same interview.

“Do you feel hurt when people like Varma and Yash Chopra fail to understand your approach to a role and take potshots at you in print? Yash Chopra accuses you of wanting to know exactly how many punches you would give Sunny and vice versa when you were supposed to do the role Shahrukh Khan eventually did in Darr?

Aamir Khan They don’t fail to understand my approach They simply tell lies. Yes it hurts tremendously when they do this.

Regarding Yash Chopra’s accusation I’d like to put things in perspective. In the first narration he told me that Sunny (Deol) and I would fight but it would be Juhi (The woman whom I was obsessed with and harassing) who would kill me. That was poetic justice. Then I came to know that he had narrated a different climax to Sunny in which Sunny would kill me. So I asked for a joint narration.

I was concerned about my screen image. I was certainly not going to be beaten up by a regular hero in a regular commercial film. See, I didn’t mind being beaten up by Deepak Tijori in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar because that was a different kind of film. But if you have a casting coup like Sunny and me then I certainly don’t want to be beaten up by him or even Arnold Schwarzenegger for that matter. Is there anything wrong with that?

When Yashji told me it would be an equal fight in the climax I asked him what he meant by that and he said both of us would have an equal number of punches. These were his words, said in the presence of cameraman Manmohan Singh and scriptwriter Honey Irani.

In any case it made more sense to have a heroine who has been terrorised all along killing her tormentor.

Yashji has also said that I had second thoughts about playing a negative role. Far from it… in fact, I would not have glamorised the role the way it was done in the film if I had done it. The character had a mental problem and it should have been played accordingly.”

So much for an actor who does not mind sharing screen space with lesser stars in ensemble films and he had no problems glamorizing a character with mental problem in Ghajini though.

Kareena best actress for 3Idiots? This is what acting is coming down to? And Ranbir Kapoor for Rocket Singh? And then you have Priyanka Chopra who could not pull off each of those 12 characters convincingly at all and at last you have Saif Ali Khan for Love Aaj Kal. Sorry, but this is seriously wrong.

I did not even bother reading the rest because it probably flushes further into deep holes.

Sputnik – Thanks. I stand corrected. I have posted that link but never read that part. Needed to refresh my memory :) But I think he felt betrayed after JJWS when Anil was given the award. Link

I read the article. It has negativism written all over it.

“He did receive a Best Actor award in 1996 for his over the top hamming in Raja Hindustani. He should have displayed a little patience and waited one more year. But do you think he deserved the Best Actor that year? Some of the other performances that year were Sunny in Ghatak and Chandrachur in Maachis. Even Salman acted very well in Khamoshi. They gave it to Aamir because it was the biggest hit that year.

The article itself is saying Filmfare is giving award at whim. And the artilce further goes on stating why all other performances are great and Aamir should not have won.

“Infact Aamir himself said in an interview before the 1992 Filmfare awards that one should be happy even if they don’t receive an award as it is someone else from their fraternity who receives an award. Just watch the video at 2min 45 sec.
He even performed “Ghungat Ki Aad se” with Juhi Chawla. Just watch the video from 5min 21 sec.”

That should be 1993 (the video caption is correct). “Ghunghat ke aad se” performance probably was promotional (and was nominated for JJWS) because the movie released in Mid 1993.

He said before the awards that one should not mind an other actor receiving an award and then felt betrayed when Anil received the award. Isn’t that hypocrisy?

Anil would have won for Beta in 9/10 awards coz its a different role. Aamir’s role (though he acted really well) was similar to the college roles that he did before.

The article I posted is not saying that awards were right. But it is talking about the same drama that plays out every year with Aamir getting nominated. Tabu has never won a popular award for best actress yet nobody talks about it? Why is that so?

The link you posted says Aamir was mad because JJWS did not win any award. That’s wrong. JJWS won the Best Film award that year.

Actually Sajid asked Anil about the award and the controversy. Check out Anil’s reply.

Shah Rukh says “If I can act like Aamir” in the video. Aamir never says anything about SRK’s acting. Read his responses he always says “as a star”.

Some idiotic rants above that makes no sense. Lots of heartburn being caused on Aamir and 3 Idiots’ success looks like.

Yes, Rks is misinformed about Aamir refraining from the awards because of DDLJ. He stopped going after not winning for JJWS, which I thought he richly deserved. But then these awards are jokes anyway, and no one takes them that seriously. I think Aamir being the perfectionist type that he is, took it to heart. He was I think in his early 20s and I don’t blame him. He attached importance to awards, which is precisely why he felt disappointed. I don’t think he was unreasonable, because even in 1991, he was a prime candidate to win it for Dil. When Madhuri got and he didn’t, I don’t think he threw a fit. From what I remember, he gracefully clapped for Sunny Deol.

So the issue is not of hypocrisy at all. There is nothing of that sort. Probably Aamir shouldn’t have taken it so seriously, but that as I pointed out, stems from his own personality.

I feel in his own way, by staying away, Aamir has made a strong statement against the utter stupidity behind these awards and the mockery they are making out of it year after year. Today everyone is saying the same! Their credibility is at an all time low. Maybe they should sincerely clean up their act and give awards to people who genuinely deserve it. Then Aamir and co should be graceful enough to support it again.

    Sandy,
“Some idiotic rants above that makes no sense. Lots of heartburn being caused on Aamir and 3 Idiots’ success looks like.”

Hmmm…. I have seen 3 Idiots and I loved it. To me it is the best movie of 2009. Of the 3 films that RKH has made I love LRM the most. While I loved 3 Idiots I also kind of agree with some of Abzee’s points from his review. I personally thought Aamir overacted but the movie was so entertaining that I did not care after 15 minutes into the movie whether he was overacting or if he looked like a 18-22 year old.

As far as Aamir’s acting is concerned I think he is a very good actor and I like his performances in a lot of movies like JJWS, HHRPK, AAA, Rangeela, AHAT, Ghulam, Earth, Lagaan, Sarfarosh, RDB. He is reaping the benefits of his hard work from the 90s (as you or someone else has already said) and he deserves to be the current numero uno. In fact I would pick Aamir as the top actor of the decade and his performance in Lagaan as the best of the decade.

“He stopped going after not winning for JJWS, which I thought he richly deserved. But then these awards are jokes anyway, and no one takes them that seriously. I think Aamir being the perfectionist type that he is, took it to heart. He was I think in his early 20s and I don’t blame him. While I love JJWS and Aamir’s performance in it, I disagree and have to say that Anil deserved it. Sometimes you know after watching a movie that they are going to sweep the awards like Heath Ledger in TDK. When I saw Beta in 1992 I thought Anil, Madhuri and Aruna Irani will sweep the awards. Similarly I think Sunny deserved it for Ghayal more than Aamir for Dil. Just because Madhuri got it for Dil does not mean Aamir should.

“So the issue is not of hypocrisy at all. There is nothing of that sort.”
He gave an interview before the Filmfare awards telecast saying one should not mind if they did not receive an award. But he then stopped attending awards because he did not get the Best Actor that same year. If that is not hypocrisy then I don’t know what it is. Check the 3rd video from the link I gave before.

I agree that awards in India are a joke and I think they have became worse over the years. I just think that the easiest way to avoid all these controversies every year is that Aamir should not be even nominated. He does not care anyway right.

Most of the people who left are classless – even if they have/had talent (analogous to Aamir being a great star but a lousy person).
