Q. How is the business of Three Idiots in single screens?
A. Its nowhere as good as its multiplex business but it is still very good. The single screen business of Three Idiots will be higher than any film this year apart from Wanted and even if we take last year into account then the single screen business of Three Idiots will be similar to Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and only second to Ghajini.

Q. Which film opened better Ghajini or Three Idiots?
A. If go by all India seat occupation then it would be Ghajini but if we go by actual collections then its Three Idioits.

Q. If films which are due for late 2010 release like Ra1 and Tees Maar Khan do not make it next year which other films beside MNIK, Kites and Ranbir/Imtiaz film are expected to do well?
A. Films like Veer, Housefull, Anjani Anjani, No Problem and Agent Vinod are the other biggies of 2010.

Q. Is Aamir Khan the biggest star after Three Idiots?
A. No doubt Aamir Khan is biggest star today. Also if we use Indian box office as strict criteria to measure stardom then the sort of success Aamir has seen in 2008-2009 has never ever been seen by anyone else in the history of Hindi cinema. Ghajini is amongst the 15 historic hits of Hindi cinema and although its too early to say Three Idiots may prove to be one as well. Even if it does not reach historic status it will be very close.

2010 has a lot…
VEER, MNIK, ANJAANA ANJAANI, AGENT VINOD, TEEN PATTI, RANN, KHEELEN HUM JEE JAAN SEY, Rohan Sippy’s Next, RAJNEETI, TEES MAAR KHAN and RA-1 (working title?)
As for Aamir…yeh to sirf shuruvat hai ;0)!

Barring RA-1 (since this hasn’t even start shooting so I have no idea what to expect here), not one of the movies listed above will crack 50 (yes that includes MNIK) on opening week. MNIK seems to serious to be doing BB business.

I cant say about other movies but i am sure Kites and MNIK would crack 50 cr provided they gets released in 1500 prints like 3I..

Yes, 50 crores should be easy for MNIK and Kites – the question is not of opening for SRK and Hrithik, it is about how the public accepts them. That is where I think it might be difficult to match 3 Idiots which has not taken a single wrong step so far.
The opening has been beyond historic, the reviews were mostly excellent, the public craze and acceptance has been tremendous and in all likelihood, the film will see extraordinary trending. All this is almost dream-like. SO opening per se is not the issue for Hrithik and SRK.
BTW, I believe MNIK’s full song is up on YOu Tube, can someone upload it?

Even if Aamir attempts somethiing like MNIK, 50 CR may not be easy. You have to look at how the audience are looking at the movies now. Sure a big star can bring them to the theatre but if the subject is not entertaining enough from the previews then it wouldn’t be easy to do these 50 CR openings. KITES on the other hand looks like a lost cause. I don’t see how this movie can open big.

and just because both Ghajini and 3I cracked 50 it doesn’t mean that it’s an easy feat. Again, public wants entertainment. I am telling you right now…..It wouldn’t be easy for MNIK to open big (1500 screens or not). Look at every single movie in the last few years that has cracked 40 CR and you wouldn’t find ONE with a subject as sensitive and serious as MNIK.

JAF: I have to agree with you. It would be presumptuous to assume that a big star will anyway bring in the numbers. It’s also about genre and what the audience wants to see. That is why 3I will be difficult to match – a more BO friendly subject of such high acceptability is hard to come by.
Look at LAK and APKGK – neither had top stars but both opened huge! 2 reasons for it – audience-friendly genre and genuine buzz. If it was about the star, then Rocket Singh would have opened well also.
Why was Akshay Kumar’s films constantly opening well inspite of flops/average fares? Because they looked like fun films, so the audience takes a chance.
Wanted took a mammoth opening, but MAMK and London Dreams failed. This tells you that people will see Salman only in a film that looks promissing.
So I do agree, that the subject and the vibes it gives out is possibly as important as the star. But you also have to consider that Kites and MNIK are very big films with a lot riding on them. They will be hyped a lot, so by the time they release there will be sufficient buzz. Also, Hrithik and SRK are premium stars – they only do select films and have a large fan base. So this will also play a part in the opening. 35-40 cr is assured i would think, if not 50.
I don’t mean to say that the genre will not come into play. Maybe because MNIK is a serious subject, it might restrict its appeal, but I am sure there will be enough curiosity generated by the time it approaches release.
On Kites, I think there is nothing in the genre to stop it from being a major opener. It looks like a breezy romantic film to me and if the songs are good, getting in the audience won’t be tough for Hrithik. Yes, too many things have gone wrong for the film so far, so one is naturally doubtful about how well the film has turned out to be. But opening may not be a major issue at all.

why everyone is forgetting that in 2010 – aamir has DHOBI GHAAT? Shooting is over – and does anyone still has a doubt that it won’t do even 50 cr????????

Three Idiots Creates Havoc On Monday
Monday 28th December 2008 10.00 IST
Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network
Three Idiots has created havoc all over India on Monday. The film is going into its last few shows of the day and whatever collections are available as yet are just unbelievable. The biggest blockbusters of recent times show a 40-50% drop on Monday from Sunday and tomorrow will tell what drop Three Idiots has seen on Monday.
But if the data available at the moment is any indication then Monday is set to smash all Monday records by big margins. Monday was a holiday but still the Monday collections are likely to leave the industry and trade speechless as Three Idiots marches ahead to become a historic hit.
It is almost certain that Three idiots will emerge an All Time Blockbuster with Aamir Khan achieving an unbelievable never before feat by any actor of two back to back All Time Blockbusters in Ghajini and Three Idiots.
