EXCLUSIVE REVIEW BY ROHIT KOTHARI

Aal Izz well’!!! Yes this is what one would come out and say after watching the movie 3 Idiots. Once again Rajkumar Hirani hits the bull’s eye with his new movie 3Idiots, starring Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, R. Madhavan, Kareena Kapoor, Mona Singh and Boman Irani. To believe in self and never lose hope is the movie’s simple ideology. Follow your heart and achieve what you dream is what the movie is all about.

The movie begins with two buddies Farhan (R. Madhvan) and Raju (Sharman Joshi) on their way to search their lost buddy Rancho (Aamir Khan). As the journey of the two proceeds in the beautiful locales of the north of India, the movie goes to the flashback and tells the story of the trio Raju, Rancho and Farhan when in the college.

Rancho is an uncontainable thinker and does what his heart says. His unique style and antique talks win the individuals heart and completely changes their way of thinking towards life. It’s the story about Rancho’s love with Pia (Kareena Kapoor). Moreover to worsen up the things Pia is the daughter of Rancho’s arch rival and so called villain- the Dean of the institute Viru Sahastrabuddhe (Boman Irani).

Raju and Farhan are always worried about Rancho’s antique style, and Rancho’s life is held between his love Pia and the baddie Viru. Still the three Rancho, Farhan and Raju somehow manage and continue to have fun, least bothered as to where the lives front. Until one fine day Rancho suddenly vanishes from everyone’s life.
This sudden absence of Rancho leaves people connected to his life shocked and with unanswered questions as to Who was he? Where did he come from? Why did he leave? The person who managed to change the individuals way of thinking, made them listen to their hearts and made their living better in this Idiotic world, left suddenly.

The first half of the movie keeps you jump out of your seats by the witty one liners and absolute fun all around. The movie looks better with every frame as it proceeds giving no time to the viewer’s cheek’s to rest. But by the time interval arrives the movie takes an unexpected twist. Post interval the flick exposes the emotional side.

Hirani is outstanding and unmatchable. He delivers to the people beyond their expectations. Like his previous Munnabhai series, this movie too has a perfect and a fine storyline with a message hidden in the movie. It is the movie for all the hearts- young and the old, and makes think to one and all. A story that one can relate to his own and forces the individual to introspect. The story about the pressure onto the students of studies and about those who end up giving their lives, just because they fail to fulfil their parent’s expectations.

Hirani’s direction is top-notch and leaves you with a new theory in life- Aal Izz Well. The script by Hirani and Joshi is flawless. Muraleedharan’s cinematography is perfect. The lyrics are simple yet touching. Shantanu Moitra’s composition is soothing and a treat to the ears on screen.

Aamir is incredible and this is his one of the finest work till date. Madhvan and Sharman are just outstanding and unstoppable. Boman Irani is superb and the interactions between and Aamir are remarkable. Kareena Kapoor is exceptional and leaves a strong impact.

In short the movie belongs to all-the person behind and in front of the camera’s. A MUST watch flick and a treat for all.

Thanks for review Rohit. Almost all the critics (barring 2-3) have liked Aamir’s performance. I agree this is his career best performance – never once did I feel he was not spontaneous. There is so much to write about everyone’s performance and film….but later..

Rajeev Masand did not review till now?

“Falls short of Munnabhai standards, yet 3i is a broad, massy entertainer; pushes all the right emotional buttons. Melodramatic yet feel-good “

I liked aamir’s performance, but I would still pick Mangal Pandey as his best. Followed by, in no particular order, Fanaa and Rangeela.

3IDIOTs is Aamir’s best performance on the Spontaneity scale post JJWS…TOO GOOD. This performance is a landmark for him carrying the screen presence of a total charmer, watch him scenes like when he says “Tumhare Baap ko dekha, life is race” where he mocks Boman…his performing in Zoobi Doobi song is a totally outstanding.
