I think the last movie shown there was OSO.

Wow! I didn’t know this. I thought My Name Is Khan was merely being screened. The Economic Times report suggested that it was only being screened. http://economictimes.indiatime.....343143.cms
But if it’s part of the Competition category, I’m actually surprised. This might just be a good film. Fox Studios must have heavily pushed for this. It’s gonna be competing against the likes of Scorsese and Polanski!
I(d)I(o)T- OSO was a part of a Bollywood special programme. It wasn’t a part of the Competition category.

Beld- The reports which I’d heard and read suggested that MNIK was being screened at Berlin. There isn’t much to read into a screening. Heck, Suneel Darshan screened his Dosti at Cannes! But if this film’s a part of the competition, then it must have something worthy. If true, K-Jo and Co. should go to town with this development. To be a part of the Competition category at Berlinale (one of the top five prestigious film fests of the world alongside Cannes, Venice, Sundance and Locarno) is indeed a very prestigious thing.

It’s very confusing…they’re calling it a part of the Competition programme and then the tag says ‘Out of Competition’! Somebody please clear this up. If it’s a part of the Competition, then history will record it as the first time that I’m excited about the critical merits of a K-Jo directed SRK starrer! Never thought that day would come. Anything is possible I guess, when Aamir’s 3I is looking increasingly like an Akki film made with a better cast and a prestigious director! LOL!

Cannes –
“Not strictly an official section per se, the Festival’s practice of screening films ‘out of competition’ has been around since the very beginning, but has increased in popularity (and numbers) over the past few years. Films shown in this category generally do not fit into any other section of the festival. They are typically special events or films that the Festival feels deserve the honour of screening at Cannes, but do not justify a position in the official program (or perhaps do not meet the selection criteria). “

have to admit sandy. Your irrational hatred for Karan is only outdone by the same irrational craze for aamir
Karan’s next movie’s tag line should be – Hell hath no fury than a woman scorned…..

RKS- Thanks for the ‘technical’ explanation. But it still doesn’t clear the air on the MNIK status.
Anyway, the only promo of 3I that has genuinely impressed me is the recent one with Kareena where she comments on Gujarati cuisine like dhoklas, theplas, fafdas, ghatias all sounding like the names of missiles! Who’d have thought that it would take a Kareena promo to get me interested in an Aamir Khan film! But the earlier promos of 3I were really all over the place…why oh why is everything about this film on a very loud level. If someone’s laughing, they’re laughing like there’s no tomorrow, if they’re crying, they’re using every tear duct that there is, when they’re jumping around, they’re putting epileptics to shame! I pray that 3I is not a loud film. Which is why this comparatively subtler Kareena promo brought a nice smile to my face- simple observational humour, no extra effort.
Btw, the prospect of seeing Aamir pose as a 22 year old for 75% of the film is going to be task! Fear not oh heart, hopefully ‘all will be well’ with 3I after all. Hope that song wasn’t their mantra while shooting the film- Aamir as a 22 year old, a repeat of the RDB cast, comedy at a loud level…don’t worry, dil pe haath rakh ke bolo…ALL IZZ WELL! Shudder!

btw just saw on ndtv srk at the premiere of avatar. he made some very nice points. Whether it comes true or not remains to be seen – but he said this tie up with Fox was aimed at increasing the movie market in India from 100 to 200-300cr

Beld- Don’t challenge me old songs. I’ve grown up listening to Amin Sayani and Vividh Baharti. Devar in fact is one of my dad’s favourite films, have the VCD at home.

What I can figure out MNIK is not in the competition.. It will only be screened just like what has happened with few Bollywood movies in the recent past. Getting short listed in the competition category at Berlin Film Festival is a big thing.

In that case Som, there is not much special to this – especially because the festival starts on 12 Feb ! The same day movie gets released.
First for BW in this case is Opening the festival with this film – which is a good thing.

It is nothing special as such unless it is in the competition category.. But knowing Indian media’s ignorance, they will try to project and make headlines as if getting screened at Berlin Film Festival is a prestigious thing. If I am not wrong,Kambakkht Ishq was screened at this year Cannes Film Festival.
