boxer1 My Review of BOXER (Hindi, 1983)

A genre I have a GREAT weakness for. Be it ROCKY, APNE, ARYAN or CINDERELLA MAN!

I love the boxing films, be it the ROCKY series, CINDERELLA MAN, THE BOXER, THE HURRICANE to our very own APNE. Yes, the films are usually formulaic as hell with an under-dog triumphing over all odds and winning at the end, but what I usually find in boxing films is that it’s not the destination, it’s the journey. Keeping that in mind, it was only a matter of time till I watched Raj Sippy’s BOXER. Does the movie work? Quiet frankly, yes, though the movie does seriously slacken in pace at times.

Thanks for the review — one of my favorite 1980s songs (“Shaadmani”) is from this film, it was a staple of shaadi videos back in the day.

akshay – have u seen that mithun movie where he plays the indian version of james bond – was it shikaar or something like that. mithun had 2 careers in bollywood – the first one was showcasing his dancing capabilities and the 2nd one was much more sleazier…

but i remember reading somewhere – that in his 2nd career – he made a lot of money for his producers..

Its not Shikaar, its Suraksha & Wardaat

During 90s. Mithun movies were shot in ooty, with 40-60 lakhs budget and usually collected 1.5 to 2 crores making them profitable venture for all

Mithun has a hotel in Mysore too. He changed the shooting location from Ooty to Mysore in early 2000. I had a drink with him on couple of occasions. That guy is pure gold except when it comes to women
