   Saying Dhoni is Better captian than Ganguly is like saying Taylor was better than Border, Waugh better than Taylor and Ponting better than Waugh.

   Ganguly was the first captian probably after Pataudi to bring back some ruthlessness back to Indian team, after years of lameness given by the likes of Shastri,Manjreker etc.

   Just like Border had to face humiliating losses to WI/Eng at home and rebuild his team before he gave it to Taylor in Mid 90’s to defeat the WI team who has not lost a test series for 15 years.

   Under Ganguly India won their first tests in Aus, Eng etc after not winning a test outside for 15 years.

   Also i dont see India as no 1 team unless they beat SA,Aus,Eng in test series at their homes,especially after the recent embarrassing loss at home against AUS.

    Australia Uncrowned number 1 since beating WI at their home in 1995, 4 back to back world cup finals, won 2. Have lost only 4-5 Test series in last 15 years.

    South Africa, Eternal Number 2 to Aus last 15 years, Only team other than Aus to Beat India and West Indies at their home(infact they did it before Aus covered the final frontier). Have had number 1 ranking couple of times, also only team after 1992 to beat Aus at home in test series.

    Very well summed Doga. Not some but total. If they sledge, sledge more and give it back!

    I also agree with what Beld says, much as I adore Ganguly, at times his aggressiveness, made him take a few wrong decisions, more towards the end of his career. Dhoni is quite cool and more composed in that regard.

    On serious note, Sehwag was considered a hard hitting middle order batsmen, who could also bowl.

    For that matter even Dhoni was bought into the Indian team from nowhere by Ganguly, in place of the media savvy (but good for nothing Mongia). Dhoni was till then was relatively unknown, except for some exploits in an international game against Pakistan in England.

    btw – over the last couple of days – it was the first time i heard many commentators/experts on TV openly talk about Sehwag being a greater cricketer than Sachin. While I would question the definition of ‘greatness’ – i think there is enough evidence to prove that Sehwag and Sachin are probably both all time greats. Sachin mentioned today that this team is the best he has played with. I think this team has great balance sans a match winning spinner. I may be in the minority but i definitely think that Harbhajan is on the decline – our spin bowling is not really that great currently. I think Ojha seems a steady bowler but we need a match winner

    Ganguly in the Indian team (as captain or as a player) was exactly what Beld/Achilles is on NG … stronghead/presumptous and hated by most … but still difficult to ignore coz at end of the day, whatever he said or did turns out to be true much to the dismay of all the detractors … brewing more and more hatred … all his bold decisions did more to the team than anyone ever dreamt of … and he was a rare indian player with some real guts, which stood him out among a bunch or very talented yet spineless players.

    All of India’s recent success owes something or the other to what Ganguly did to the team.

    I think in tests,
    Dravid, Kumble, Sehwag are the biggest pillars followed by Sachin, laxman and harbhajan.
    Sourav and Dhoni are India’s best captain followed by Kapil and Pataudi.
    I am also most excited about Gautam Gambhir and believe that he is the only player besides Dhoni who will do well in all the three formats.

    Before anyone asks for clarification, here is how it goes,

    Me or Gorilla probably make a prediction thread for Akki movie.

    Movie releases to good opening and then goes down.

    Gorilla/Anna post good reviews.

    Gorilla posts all positive BO reports, like 10 of them.

    Ach Post all the bad BO reports/reviews, like 10 of them.

    All threads include potshots at each others stars.(Ach,Gorilla,Me,Anna,Beld etc included)

    End of story, this happens for each Akki movie. Such a demand.

    PS: The above happens irrespective of who is right, just an observation.Ach has been mostly right about Akki’s movies but then if we agree so easily and dont go through the whole process, why are we here then.

    Let me stick my head out yet again – DDD will not get in the vicinity of 50 cr … will fold up i 40-45 cr range.

    Doga – Akki has been talked about most because he had 5 releases in a year where the top stars had 1 release between them … any bw site or forum wud have talked more about Akki than anyone else … whats the surprise? (again this is n-th time i have asked u this.)

    Also along with how much his movies did, will u educate us on how many crores of losses Akshay movies made this year?

    Anyways, since gorilla is obsessed with Akshay and me only, here is summary of gorilla-ach history since 2008:

    1. Ach said JA will be blockbuster, Gorilla said flop.
    Result – JA was a hit.

    2. Ach said SR will flop, Gorilla – Hit.
    Result – SR was average in mumbai, Flop everywhere else.

    3. Ach said LS2050 will flop, Gorilla – hit.
    Result – LS2050 was Disaster

    4. Ach said Drona will Flop, Gorilla – Hit
    Result – Drona was Disaster

    5. Ach said CCTC will flop, Gorilla – ATB
    Result – Flop

    6. Ach said Tasveer Flop, Gorilla – hit
    result – flop

    7. Ach said KI Flop, Gorilla – Blockbuster
    result – flop/average (whoever u believe)

    8. Ach said Blue Flop, Gorilla – Blockbuster

    I dont remember the rest – but now i have opened pandora’s box on why gorilla is after me … i enjoy that! my BO predictions turned out to be correct more often than not much to the dismay of Gorilla and satyam or his leftovers here – so dont think the attacks will cease anytime soon!

    Anyways i was not being serious when i mention Akki most talked about star or Making this much money, everyone knows he has had 3 flops and 2 Averages this year.

    Also i have said that you have probably been mostly right about Akki’s movies outcome and there is no doubt that makers have lost money.

    But its also true that there must be one bad review/bo report for Akki by you for each Good review/report by Gorilla.

    Sorry to say but Doga and Ach’s ana;ysis is myopic.
    I was upbeat on JA the day it released. Infact i am upbeat on most movies (any movie that promises) as can be seen in the list provided. Unfortunately your memories are short as you have forgotten to mention OSO, ghajini, TZP, Ajab prem ki and scor of others.
    BTW, Ach has not been right, he has just been lucky. Right from the promo till the last bit he is a sadist for most of the films except for Hrithik. It maybe because of his bias or inherent nature, but he is that and one can be right most of the time with bollywood movie if you say that movies will not do well. There is no joy in doing that and in my book does not warrant any appreciation.
    Moreover, offlate Ach is just a snob who fails to pleasantly surprise now.
    His narrative is political in nature and one know reasoning behind him prefering his choices. He is a fan of a loser.

    Initially that was true, but with time the initial good articles have evaporated … the media has universally declared KI as a failure/flop and categorized them with the likes of CCTC, Tasveer, Blue,etc … a simple search will yield lots of such articles … and its hardly an unfair call, since KI has had substancial losses in crores in the distribution chain, whether one likes to accept the harsh reality or not – its not a case of a few sub-distributors losing small amount of money with SIK … it was far severe with KI – trade knows that and the truth have percolated to the media too with time, leaving behind the csams from producers and akshay and whoever.

    One can see only jealous and snobbish comment from the so called fake box office numerologist, about a film that has generated extraordinary WOM and is going to be a hit.
    Who is the only one on NG trying to deconstruct the success of Wanted?
    and these are just a few examples. this guy was after Ranbir but now has gone silent and is waiting like a wounded wolf for Rocker singh to falter.
    But what can we expect from a person who has been paralysed because of disappearance of his star from the scene since last 21 months and no sight in the next 6 months.

    call me a sadist or whatever … i am more realistic and predict based on movie economics. anyways, i wont predict Kites will recover its investment of 150 cr, inspite of it being hrithik movie – or say Paa wont be able to recover costs – it doesnt take much to see which movies are likely to fail or work well if one can is aware of the commercial viability of the stars in it and the budget/costs associated with the movie. Its quite simple.

Yes i gave a detailed analysis (no predictions) that Wanted is unlikely to have done 60 cr as Doga says here … no one offered any counter argument on how the 60 cr is still possible? But now says i tried to deconstruct Wanted? maybe mathematics is an alien subject to some here.

    But those talking about extra-ordinary WOM on Paa will be at loss when Paa will end up with 25-30 cr like WUS or RO instead of the 60 cr that cdi/tzp did with extraordinary wom … this is not deconstruction but just a reality check that some hypers cant comprehend.

    I am happy that India is Number one but I want to see same consistency from top order if they play on bouncy wickets of Australia and South Africa in 5 test match series. Pre Ganguly Indian team use to appear timid but with Ganguly, team behaved in certain way. In Dhoni’e era team looks little more professional where every one contributes.

    Aarohi – Saw Paa but didn’t find it engaging enough. My biggest problem was tonal quality of dialogues. At some place the movie was very realistic and some places it was too loud. Moreover felt Abhishek’s political part was no way related to movie theme. He could have been banker, cricketer and movie still would have remained same. I will probably like some political part (it was good but irrelevant) in Raajneeti or SarkarRaj type movies. Vidya was good but I think her hysterical confrontations (After finding about Auro) with Abhishek were not needed. I liked Traditional Naani. Abhi was good but there was not much scope for him. Probably they could have cut the politics part and showed his interaction with Auro more. Amitabh was endearing as kid. In all it was a good effort but I think I wanted to see a little different movie.

    as long as we arent referring to individuals – why cant we talk about SS here? why should any thread be closed. btw i would encourage all to go visit SS this week and follow the numerous discussions of paa. it reminds me of those old hindi movies where all the bad guys from across the world would land up in the villain’s lair …… u guys get the drift .

    i dont understand rohit’s soft nature to SS. people talk ill about indiafm/taran/komal etc – why cant we similarly comment on SS. Its all in the right spirit.

    I clearly missed action in the thread

    Doga,

    India have alreday beat Eng in their home ina test series in 2007…India have won a series in Pak,ban,WI,eng and nz in last 3/4 years….In 2007-08 indo aus series everybopdy knows what happend and with corrcet umpiring decisions Ind wouold have won the series…The only challenege is SA and next years Ind tour to SA will setlle the issue..

    I also believe that the in urrcet success of indian team ganguly have a big role..But yes Dhoni is a better captain than Saurav…..

    All in all Sachin,rahul,kumble,laxman,shewag and Bhajji(In no particular order) are been instrumental in Indis’s position at the top in test matches followed by Zheer,guatam and Dhoni..

    I will bring up a complete detailed list of performances of these players in winning matches in last 7-8 years shortly.

    Raj i guess i am out of time zone about cricket, lol.

    That Aus series totally disheartened me about cricket in general.

    Yes India has improved by leaps and bounds last 3/4 years.

    This ranking is justified, i was just referring to how India will match up to the other great teams of other eras and if India will reach that level.
