Certain movies release slightly ahead of their time, and the audiences simply aren’t ready for the movie, or it’s too “different” for them to accept it, in recent times we’ve had NO SMOKING, and 5 years ago we had BOOM. Now I’m not saying BOOM is some misunderstood masterpiece, however Kaizad Gustad’s movie was most certainly unfairly reviewed and on the whole misunderstood by most at the time of it’s release. As time has gone on, and we’ve seen Hindi cinema really start to come of age with diverse and different movies, BOOM is a movie that certainly is easier to appreciate now for what it is then it was 5 years ago.

This was a fucking bad film. Period! I remember walking out of the theater just 20 minutes after the interval.

Boom is a masterpiece after 5 yrs of its release…it would be a Oscar award winning movie after 10 years…This alongwith Nishabd are the cinematic moments which Bollywood should always be proud of…

Each to their own Som….after so many years of release with some of the fog removed from the controversy surrounding it’s release, the film ain’t half that bad (compared to half the shit coming out at the moment anyways).
Raj: Nowhere have i said the movie is anything of a masterpiece at all, but yeah definetly misunderstood at the time of it’s release, I found it a relatively quirky gangster film, something I’d expect from Euopean Cinema rather than Hindi though..

How can someone review BOOM? It is a challenging task to watch and find review in itself. As I am able to recall once Raj said that “an individual can even say that his personal favorite is Boom!”

It must be better than the usual Johar crapfest

LOL pardesi…Amitabh hai na…KANK is a better Karan movie since it has got the Bacchans
KKHH is the worst Karan Movie since it is one of the Biggest Blockbusters of all time and more over it has SRK in it…

Raj: Over the last few days I’ve been noticing that more and more you remark and comment with plain sarcasm, while I find a number of your comments not worth replying to as they are far from constructive by any means I thought I would reply to this one…..
For all your sarcastic comments etc, all your indirect accusations come across rather feeble for the most….
Amitabh hai na KANK mai? Right, for that matter I should also love MOHABBATEIN, or for that matter K3G (both films were Big B stole the show eyes closed) yet both films are totally shit in my view, however with KANK (my review http://masterpraz.wordpress.co.....ndi-2006/) and I thought the movie was fairly good on the whole and definetly a step in the right direction for K-jo (hopefully MNIK is a further step in that direction).
KKHH is the worst Karan Movie?? I totally agree with you there!
I think SRK and the romance genre is vastly overrated on the whole which I think is the biggest think that irks you. I would lfar FAR Prefer to see him do DON, KANK, CHAK DE INDIA, SWADES, HEY RAM or heck even something far more subdued like PARDES then watch KKHH, K3G, DTPH, V-Z(oh wait…Bachchan’s there too:))
And yes, I enjoyed BOOM at that…heck I’ve enjoyed a no. of films which have flopped outright (SWADES, ASOKA, HEY RAM, or for that matter NISHABD, and BOOM)!

Also more than misunderstood, BOOM is a film that the Indian audiences would’ve NEVER accepted then. KAANTE had only just come out the previous year which was the first time audiences would’ve got the bastardized Hollywood film and in 03 we got BOOM. However BOOM is also far FAR less safer than say KAANTE, aside from the treatment (more a throwback to quirky UK films then Tarantino by any means)…..
A bad BAD film is what I call RGV KI AAG, MAIN AUR MRS KHANNA, BOOM is different…..but watching it after 6 years I was far more accepting, and hard-pushed to call it a “bad” movie by any means….

“”"Amitabh hai na KANK mai? Right, for that matter I should also love MOHABBATEIN, or for that matter K3G (both films were Big B stole the show eyes closed”"
Well thats a news…bacchan fans will always give negative views about SRK soleley for the reason that he stole the thuinder from Amitabh in Mohabbatein as well as K3G…Then he decieded to do KBC and DON…These are the reasons Bacchans fans have an issue with SRK..Nothing more nothing less….
Then they use their writing skills to deflect the real issue and take the cover of masala, romance genre and what not to hit back at SRK…
These guys have a special problem with romance genre..What the heck…Why do you guys underestimate this genre when people have watched them and gave them a thumbs up ..??? You guys hit out at Yash Chopra and karan johar at any given time because they direct romance movies?? WTF…
You worship RGV because he is hell bent to direct some bastardised version of HW movies…??
If i have to choose between a word “”Bastard”" and “‘Romance”" i will choose the later (most indians do)…

A.S
If KKHH was bad what was Raja Hindustani and Fanaa…??I have never seen you blasting those movies …They were eqally bad/good ….
If you have good intentions why not blast those movies too…I mean Karan johar has merely directed three movies..But you punch him as if he is driving this industry badly…How many RGV has directed and how many out of them were plain crap..??.I have never seen you raise your voice against those RGV movies or VVC for that matter(What was Ekalavya..a shitfest??)…You celebrared KI here(What was that)
Do you really think Wanted is a progressive movie???but you celebrated it in the name of some fucking word called “‘masala”"..
Why do your voice becomes shrill against some movies and becomes consisderate for others???
Man come out of these hypocrisises….There cant be different rules for different persons…

Raj: In amongst your delusion you completely misunderstood what I’ve written. I don’t have a dislike for the romance genre at all what so ever, infact some of my favourite films in recent times (SAATHIYA, KAADHAL, 7/G RAINBOW COLONY, RHTDM, MPK, DDLJ, and countless others) have been in the romance genre. It’s more the cumbersome caricature that SRK has become in films like KKHH, right to OSO in parts.
I guess it’s different ways to look at cinema, for you the entire sphere of everything you see is about SRK and SRK only, what you think is “take cover of masala” for me isn’t a cover at all, my fondness for it is quiet open
You writing is slowly deflecting that of a deluded politician, who is “they”? and “these guys”? They do this and these guys do that!
Again, no one hits out at Yash Chopra at “any given time” and again most of the criticism has been against what Yash Chopra has done to the banner of Yashraj…have you seen or smelt the kind of shit that comes out of Yash Chopra in recent times? If not, I suggest you quickly watch DIL BODE HADDIPA and check out the poster of PYAAR: IMPOSSIBLE
I guess “the(se) people” have high expectations from a banner like Yashraj which has become a self loathing parody of itself!
Worship? Yes I hold a high regard for a Maverick like RGV who has been going solo for Decades now come hell or high water, hit and miss (more miss of late) has always been the game for Ramu, and anything he does on the whole interests me far more than Yashraj of late! And which “bastardised version of HW movies” are you on about?
Anyways, enough on the Yashraj rant, I think even most SRK fans and Yashraj themselves know the games just far too big to even go for a RNBDJ type deal next time round!

Also note I place Yashraj Pre and Post DDLJ as 2 very diametrically different business models and institutes!

Akshay,
To each his own likes and dislikes…I dont care about what you like and i am sure you feel the same…The larger point is ..you give the example of DBH which is a bad movie and needed to be blasted but so as JBJ and a Tashan..No..But have you done that??? You will come up with some excuses like “‘ahead of its time”‘ or “‘cult Movie”" to justify those movies..Why ..You go slow on these movies…Agree karan has directed some bad movies…But do you think Dostana is some cinematic achievement??? But yes you will go slow on that too…
This is what my objection is to…I am objecting to the politics in your writing not you likes or dislikes…
