gosh gorilla – u have a long memory. actually i thought this trend started in earnest with SRK and Don. it was followed by mani ratnam in guru and now almost all actors do it. imo – these are ego trips by very egoistic guys. btw i think srk got away very lightly for the billu failure. he hyped it so much that media should have gone after him

Nobody denied that KI did not fare as well as expected but this is different from accepting that KI failed/flopped at BO as what Beld is suggesting.

However the point of the article mentions actors figting desperately to call their movie hit which they never was. The problem with this article from Nahata is that it doesn’t point finger that the same trade analysts who know that a film that has opened weel but has been panned by critics actually still has a chance to succeed. In past many films have done that. So why the trade pundits jump the gun to call it a flop. This bias or the politics behind has not been touched.

Media usually like bad news and obviously they pick on the words of these analysts and start campaigning against the movie which can have adverse impact. So in these times, the stakeholder that include the actors have to say that things are still bright for them. Unfortunately, KI after a good week 1 could not sustain enough to cross 60Cr (and this is what I was also expecting), otherwise trade pundits would have eaten a humble pie, but then that sorry face will not make news or affect the industry.

The same hapenned with Yes Boss long time back. In that case trade pundits wrote that film off after week1, but SRK fought fack and he was right as the film sailed thru. In case of KI id ddn’t but that does not mean that one should not support his films esp when it opened to bumper response all over india and showed signs of sustenance on Monday. So do not understand why Komal wants to act as the grand onld daddy here when it is his community that is at fault the most.

akshay did admit that KI failed. Gorilla – if you cant find it – u are probably looking at the wrong interview. Arnab clearly asked him how he handled flop after flop – first cctc then 8×10 and now KI – and akshay responded with some thing like ‘hits and flops are part of business’ kind of answer. I think the problem with akshay is reflected in the attitude of gorilla here – trying to escape from the truth, keep giving excuses etc etc – instead of just admitting to mistakes and correcting them. BTW – these mistakes are doing akshay no harm personally – he is raking in the moolah for sure but its more his movies that suffer

The case with KI was different. Media was painting it a disaster from day 1, which in fact it never was. So do not find a fault with actors who stick to their films that open big and ensure that media’s negative marketing doesn’t cause damage. In such a situation, I do not find anything wrong. KI was a good success and an average grosser at the BO.

Akshay has never admitted that KI failed or for that matter he was never asked about KI’s BO performance. He accepted that CCTC and 8X10 flopped and on KI he accepted the crassness and somewhat abusive dialogs.

I dont think a media manager will do any good, his movies are just too expensive to recover their investment. The best thing he can do right now is to belt out a few comedy hits
