Meena Kumari is famous for her strong and author backed roles in the golden era of Hindi Films. To say that she was unparalleled is an understatement, she was the epitome of natural acting. She was the so called “Tragedy Queen” of Hindi films and will be remembered for years to come for her performances. Here is a light hearted dream sequence song starring Meena Kumari from the film Tamasha (1952) starring Dev Anand in the lead. The music was composed by Khemchand Prakash ji (“Mahal” fame) who passed away at a young age. Singer Manna Dey ji completed several of his assignments including this one. The lyrics are by the veteran Bharat Vyas.
As our friend Vipin ji has quoted” Meena Kumari was just 20 years old then, but see how she summons the right bashful expressions for the camera. They go perfectly with the song’s theme”. Its a perfect case of simple yet free flowing meaningful lyrics, pleasing music, great rendition and a subdued yet mesmerizing on-screen performance!
