guru2 My initial thoughts on Mani Rathnam’s GURU (Hindi, 2007)

Every now and then comes a film huge in what it’s trying to portray, so powerful in its themes and ultimately so entertaining in the manner that it’s presented and ultimately connects to the viewer, the movie becomes an “event”. An unforgettable experience and one that will undoubtedly go down in history. I just experienced GURU, an “event” in the truest sense as far as the medium of cinema stretches.

Mani Ratnam-a name synonymous with class, quality, and classics brings to celluloid his latest magnum opus which came with sky high expectations and searing hype-does Ratnams vision live up to expectations? Yes, yes and yes!

The movie was engaging and entertaining throughout…I think its Manis’ one of finest work as far as Hindi movies are concerned…Although he didnt have do anything new as far as scripting is concerned..He picked up the Dhirubhai Ambanis’ part from “”Business Maharajas”" and developed it in to a full fledged script …

The only part where the Director faltered was where Guru Bhai deposed himslef in front of the enquiry commission and delieverd a passionate speech and that speech became the basis of his aquittal…That was ridiculous and unbelievable..

That apart Abhishek probabaly gave his best performance although his performance was largely inspired by his fathers mannerisms …Mithun as la RPG was fantastic…
