Top brass actors have their hands full with films
MUMBAI: While corporates seem to have tightened their purse strings as far as movie acquisitions are concerned, for the film production sector recession does seem like a word from the past. The fact of the matter is that top brass acting talent in the Hindi film industry has their hands full for the time being.

The crème de la crème comprising the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor et al are busy shooting for one or more movies and have some ready for release too.

While the Big B may be all set to return to the small screen as the host of Bigg Boss, the fact is that he has as many as five films lined up for release. These are: Balki’s Paa, Sujoy Ghosh’s Aladin, Leena Yadav’s Teen Patti, Shoojit Sircar’s Johnny Mastana (Shoebite) and Ram Gopal Varma’s Rann. This 60+ year old actor has been working round the clock to wrap his commitments over the last one year. At present Amitabh Bachchan is enjoying a well deserved break in Singapore, where he is helping his friend – Amar Singh recuperate from a surgery.

I am making an exception to my policy of not commenting on NG anymore.. to ask this ..

The reasons are several for the current state of NG. The question is does anybody want to listen and are they serious enough to care and do something about it? This has been coming for months and i am not surprised at all.

Rocky – I am hoping it is a passing phase but from what I see, NG remains silent for long period of times or discussions we do are mostly superficial IMO.

RKS – I would still prefer this calm to the bitter fights over silly box office numbers and over which star is number one etc.

OK- I know you and RKS were serious about the state of NG , but the cause for it is IMO not as you put it., may be I am wrong !!

Isn’t it ironic that the last few comments here reflect what is wrong with NG these days …

If somebody wants to attribute this phase of NG to Ramadan, may i ask such members to look at NG’s activity during previous Ramadan periods.

Outkast how about being more on NG yourself and doing more interesting stuff here.

The slowness is not because of one person or the other, lets wait and see.

You are talking as if someone is getting pleasure from NG being slow.

The one thing which I do find irritating is this constant updating of IDs by members. Kaun kya pehle tha, woh to pataa hi nahi chalta. And sometimes, we get into discussions without realizing who we are really conversing with. Maybe there shud be a who-is-who registry somewhere that can keep track of member IDs. This would greatly help infrequent visitors like myself. Just a suggestion for RKS.

On the state of NG, definitely it s a quieter place, but somehow I feel it is a sign of maturity on a whole bunch of members that realize there is no point in fighting about silly things like BO results. What may have been lost is valuable discussions on the aesthetics of cinema and other such esoteric stuff. Most of current commentary now is just reaction to news items.

But definitely, there are enough diverse member mindsets and opinions out here that very easily counter-balance and provide a somewhat neutral discussion site. I believe that other sites are not so neutral.

    Just my 2 cents…

NYKavi – Agree but there are some circumstances where you need to do it for other reasons even though you don’t want it. Many people in enthusiasm give there name as ID but later realize that it is better to be incognito. But of course we do have members who do it for fun. Essentially emphasising your last paragraph :)

Though I am relatively new to this site and not really sure what were the interaction levels, this is what I’d like to comment

    - The idea and concept is good where people can discuss anything with the main concept being movies
    - What is lacking is not the activity, but the number of members on the site. The site needs to pull in a lot more members to constantly add new contents. Currently the issue is that there are very few active members and if some of them go missing the activity level on the site drastically drops down (All of us together can discuss more about how to drive membership to this site)

To increase the engagement level of current users I think this little thing would help
    - When we have posted a comment on a blog there should be a way that we are notified (through email) or maybe through a particular highlight on the site that there has been this new activity on that post

There can be a lot more possibilities and I think we should have a separate discussion board to see what can be done to improve the overall experience on NG

is outkast actually rocky and my fav NG member? the one who loves the mirchi song? Gosh – she is going to SS. I am flabbergasted. Very soon – we will have an exodus to NG…kyon rocky ;-)

whats wrong with NG discussions? most discussions are centered around SRK/Aamir/Hrithik – when they act as little as they do – its bound to bring down the interest levels. I am sure the Dec to Mar period will be very busy with all the releases due at that time. plus of course the satyam factor cannot be underestimated. His passion to blog is unparalleled – so obviously his loss is still to be filled. Neelu tried for a while but Rocky and me drove her away I guess.

Rohit – where the fish are u man! dont give all the dumb excuses of why u cant spend time here blah blah. This is ur site – u at least owe us
    a) one original article a week
    b) 5 comments a week
    c) a few nice pics every week (not of u – of course) ;-)
BTW given web 3.0 etc – this should be a blog with a difference imo. Right now this is too staid. we shud do facebook like movie quizzes, etc etc here on a regular basis – then this will not only increase the hits and get new members but also get the current members to come here often. Why would people come here regularly when none of the big actors are making news? Poop actors like Akshay and Salman will generate almost zilch interest!

I second Beld on that, Satyam is a powerhouse of blogging, I have been to SS couple of times,It seems to have developed into a stable blog.

Time for Satyam to buy a Domain name.

Also,I dont have anything against SS as it might seem. Its just like any other bollywood blog.

The little thing which happened above with Outkast was because of a misunderstanding on Shoutbox.

It will definitely take time for NG to rebuild, it will be a gradual process and also its not guaranteed.

Satyam is indeed a powerhouse. I have posted little comments on his blog, and have elicited huge voluminous responses, a lot of it both broad and deep, as he always has had a penchant for. The one good thing on his blog is that all the guys there have devoted themselves entirely into discussing qualitative rather than quantitative aspects of cinema. The yoke of BO fights has been lifted from their heads. Plus a lot of contribution from members with old clips, lost cinema, etc. He seems to have attracted a lot of new members, which is commendable.

All of that stuff is truely invigorating, but then I get bored without all the gupp-shapp and NG style BP raising discussions. However, as I stated earlier, NG itself has become quiet, and unfortunately it doesnt quite have the depth/breadth to offer, as it once used to.
    Phir Bhi hum hain NGistani…
