Script is the new hero

Oscar-winning director Frank Capra was often praised for the ‘Capra touch’. Once, when a writer gave him a movie script, Capra opened it to find
only blank sheets. “Try adding the Capra touch to that,” quipped the writer.
It will be a long time before any Bollywood scriptwriter will dare do the same. But a spate of script-driven movies are in the theatres. Is it a sign that the Indian film-writer is finally gaining recognition for his art after decades of being the most neglected and underpaid member of the crew? Is a good story finally running the show?
Gone are the days when a film only needed ‘stars’ to get the box-office ringing. By that rationale, this year’s Kambakht Ishq, with its Bollywood A-listers and Sylvester Stallone, should have done well. But the big-budget film’s takings nosedived after the opening weekend. Word had spread that it had little of substance to offer.

Thanks Rks. It was nice read.
I love films by Frank Capra. Another person who laid great importance on the script was Alfred Hitchcock(the best filmmaker IMO). He said once that a good film only requires three things – A good script, a good script and a good script.
