This has come as a shock! Everyone was expecting JASHNN to start quite well, between 30% and 45% range, given the fact that Vishesh Films’ last two films [JANNAT and RAAZ] had opened with a bang. Besides, JASHNN also boasts of soulful music, which is very popular with the moviegoers. But the opening numbers of JASHNN were extremely poor, in the 10% to 20% range. The reviews have been positive and so is the word of mouth, so let’s see if the film gathers steam on Saturday and Sunday.
Short Kut – The Con Is On has collected around 6.75 crore nett in India in week one with collections in Mumbai/Thane being 1.31 crore from 99 cinemas, Ahmedabad is 26.92 lakhs from 21 cinemas, Baroda is 10.25 lakhs from 5 cinemas, Surat is 11.78 lakhs from 6 cinemas and 29.70 lakhs in Pune. The Mumbai circuit total is 2.85 crore nett.
Delhi City collected 61 lakhs from 28 cinemas, Noida was 8.50 lakhs from 4 cinemas, Ghaziabad was 13.20 lakhs from 12 cinemas, Lucknow was 8.92 lakhs from 5 cinemas and Kanpur was 7.15 lakhs from 4 cinemas. The Delhi/UP circuit total is 1.25 crore nett.
It seems KI has dropped by 75-80% in the 2nd week.Mumbai numbers are incomplete(shows 88% fall), complete numbers would indicate a fall close to 80% IMO.
Taran should read Glamsham bo report. It was not expecting Jashnn to do well at all.
“While DEKH BHAI DEKH has nil chances, for once even the Bhatt stable does not have a popular soundtrack or lucky mascot Emraan Hashmi to help JASHNN!”
BOI update
Kambakkht Ishq drops around 70% in week two as it collects around 9.50 crore nett in week two to take its two week total to 43 crore nett. The film has managed Hit business in East Punjab and Rajasthan only while other circuits are lower. ABOVE AVERAGE
New York is rock steady as it grosses around 4.50 crore nett in week three taking its three week total to 41.50 crore nett. HIT
Q. Why do the daily numbers differ for some films when you give the weekly totals? For New York you daily figure matched with weekly totals but with Kambakkht Ishq there was a difference of 2-3 crore.
A. The daily estimates are made from collections from a few theatres unless distributors are more forthcoming and give daily breakdowns. So with wider releases errors can occur. The weekly totals are very accurate as 70-100% of the theatre collections are accessible depending on how forthcoming the distributors are. When the weekly theatre collections are there then any error in daily all India totals is rectified. As the site grows and collections are available from more theatres on a daily basis these errors will also be more minimal.
“Q. Is Kambakkht Ishq Akshay Kumar’s biggest hit Overseas and how does it compare with Singh Is Kinng, Heyy Babyy and other Akshay Kumar films.
A. It is not as big as Singh Is Kinng and Welcome and is his third biggest grosser in the Overseas circuit.”
Oye chak de Phatte, phat le chuhe!
Congratulations to King Kumar on his 3rd biggest HIT, biggest Hit of 2009 and bringing home the magic once again. One request to you is to do comedies with good directors. Just like comedy can’t be done by every actor, similarly comedy movie can’t be made by every director. Stick to the likes of Bazmee and Priyadarshan. For the rest you have Vipul Shah and others. Hope your films can be good enjoyable entertainers for more ppl that those who liked KI or SIK. Then it will be blockbusters and bigger hits as you have proved that opening of your film is guaranteed if given a proper release.
