Looks like Akshay Kumar believes in letting bygones be bygones. On a high because of the good opening box-office collections of his latest release, Kambakkht Ishq, Akshay threw a party last night along with his co-star Kareena Kapoor. He especially invited competitor Shah Rukh Khan, who is currently shooting in San Francisco for My Name is Khan.

Confirming the news, Akshay said, “Yes, I did call up Shah Rukh to invite him. On Sunday evening when Kareena and I suddenly decided to have a party, we decided to invite the entire industry. This wasn’t a party to celebrate our success alone. It was also a party to celebrate the success of New York as much as my film. So apart from me and Kareena, Katrina (Kaif), John (Abraham) and the entire team of New York were the party’s unofficial hosts.”

In the past, Akshay has been very vocal about the underhand means employed by his competitors to undermine his box-office standing. Having vented his views on the negative competition among the industry’s A-listers, why did Akshay invite those very people whom he accuses of trying to sabotage his film? He said, “I want them to celebrate any success and not be happy when other’s films fail. When New York released, text messages against the film were sent out. The same thing is happening with my film. Why be negative? Especially when I’ve always been happy for all my colleagues’ successes? So yes, I personally called up Shah Rukh and all my colleagues to invite them to the party. But since he’s shooting in San Francisco, he won’t be here. I am sure there will be plenty more occasions.”

The party hosted at the Marriott last night was Akshay’s first ever. “I completely shy away from parties. But this time I think we all needed to express solidarity and happiness because of the end of the prolonged slump,” he said.

The impromptu party was Kareena’s idea. “We quickly drew up a list. She invited her friends. I invited mine. Then there was Tina (wife Twinkle), who called her friends. That just about covered the whole industry,” added Akshay.

Khiladi Kumar and King Khan join hands

Celebrating the stupendous opening collections of Kambakkht Ishq, Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor hosted an impromptu bash on Monday night. Not much of a party animal, this success bash was a first of its sorts for Kumar.

According to a report carried in the Mumbai Mirror, Akshay was in the mood to bury the hatchet with all his colleagues. In the past Akshay had been rather vocal in accusing his competitors of sabotaging his films.

But Akshay surprised the media by personally inviting arch rival Shah Rukh Khan. Though SRK is currently shooting in San Fransisco, Akshay made it a point to personally call up and invite him.

Akshay told the paper, “Since he is shooting he wont be there. But I am sure there will be plenty of more occasions”. Kumar said it was happy moment for the industry which is finally showing signs of recovery.

Speaking about the party Akshay said it was a moment to celebrate the success of both Kambakkht Ishq as well as New York. He said that though both films received negative reports from a few sections, they have emerged as huge box office hits. “Why should we be negative? I am happy for all my colleagues’ successes,” added Akshay.
