wow the UAE market seems to have really grown – its much bigger than the UK and the US market. and its also apt that a film called ‘new York’ does better in UAE
Now we have to take shah and devesh more seriously – and rocky, kunal, q etc should recede to the background
The long dry spell at the box office has been ended by Yash Raj Films’ New York which has taken a bumper opening in the city multiplexes across India and is fast emerging as the first super hit of 2009. Whereas Hollywood films such as Terminator Salvation, Bolt and The Hangover too have got in a good opening. Another Hindi release, Amarjeet Shukla’s Runway has been left cold at the box office.
BO Collections
Kabir Khan’s New York starring John,Katrina and Neil Nitin Mukesh is doing phenomenal business in city multiplexes. While its first show occupancy was in the range of 70 per cent it went up to 90-100 per cent during the evening shows. The weekend saw huge crowds thronging to the cinema halls. The weekend collections of the film have been in the range of Rs 18-19 crore. What is also heartening is the film is doing well not just in big metros but also in small town multiplexes. Single screen collections haven’t been as good as the multiplexes, but then the film seems to have been targeted only at the multiplex going audiences.
