New Delhi media was in for a shock as Kareena Kapoor staged a walk out of a press conference in the city where she was present to promote her upcoming film ‘Kambakht Ishq’. Visibly upset and fuming with anger, she marched towards her suite when a female reporter questioned her if she would be willing to go totally nude for camera if the script demanded so.
Informs an onlooker who was present at the venue, “The question shocked her. Just a few minutes back, she had patiently handled queries regarding her professional life. She had also commented around wearing a bikini in ‘Tashan’ and now ‘Kambakht Ishq’ mainly because the ’script demanded it’. Though averse to doing so in future projects, she admitted that she would keep the subject and story in mind and would do ‘anything’ that is required by the script.”
Though it was a diplomatic stand on affairs, things went a little too far when an over zealous reporter popped the question – ‘Would you mind going nude for a role?’ “This was it”, adds the source, “Kareena lost her cool at that very moment and rather than choosing to blast the reporter and create a scene, she simply aborted her stay at the press conference. The flabbergasted reporter didn’t know what hit her. The event coordinator too felt disgusted about the entire incident and found himself in trouble as this situation was totally unforeseen.”
The source continues, “There were problems for Kareena from the very beginning of the event. First and foremost the chosen venue itself wasn’t conducive enough to handle a large media that had assembled. Around 100 odd reporters and journalists had gathered in a room that wasn’t large enough to host a mega celebrity press conference like this. With the claustrophobic venue not helping the cause enough, queries like these were enough for Kareena to blow her fuse.”
For media and the film, director Sabbir Khan came to rescue though. He handled the situation well by staying on at the venue and continued to interact with the reporters. “Yes, Kareena was justified in walking out but Sabbir too did all to ensure that promotion of ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ didn’t get impacted”, says a fellow reporter, “He realises that the film is just a few days away and didn’t want any bad blood to spoil the show. He had a thin rope to walk on and did pretty well in rescuing the event from turning into a complete disaster.”

we all have become so cynical and think that everything that these stars do is for publicity
The media keeps stooping to low levels every day.
I think it was extremely brave and an appropriate gesture from Kareena to walk out and make a statement that no crap should be taken from media. Quite reminds me of the Dhoni media incident.

Akshay – Some blame could be appropriated to star themselves. We keep on hearing planted stories (Like recent Hrithik-Mori-Suzaane episode or highest IT returns) that we have become, skeptical of anything we hear.
I don’t think the question is inappropriate as we keep on hearing the keyword “role demand” from contemporaries of her ilk. But at same time she has right to be offended by this, like any normal person.

Media seems more interested to see Kareena nude or for that matter any actress than the normal movie going public.

RKS – I don’t think the question was appropriate. Maybe some media men (mostly men yes) are just ful-filing their own personal sleaze by asking these questions.
First the questions were like do you mind being glamorous, next came would you kiss if the role demands, followed by would you be wearing a bikini and the latest one being would you go nude. This has to stop somewhere or else you can imagine what the natural extensions would be. Thats not being fair to the actors.

Akshay – I am not saying she is wrong in taking umbrage to that question. If you take her filmography she has kissed, and donned bikini which are still Minissha or Mallika forte in Bollywood film industry. And she is considered more serious actress than other glamorous actresses. This question has been asked to Sherlyn, Payal Rahtogi, Mallika umpteen number of times. IMO a simple ‘No’ would have been sufficient. But then we don’t react similarly to same situation everytime depending upon our mood at that time.

Not sure what was there to be upset about. All she had to say is “No”. The question was entirely appropriate and relevant to ask a filmstar. She is not a politician, diplomat or businesswoman who needs context appropriate questions. Extremely Diva’ish behaviour.

Or she could have said she would love to but because she is size “Zero” now, there was nothing to show.

I think given the context in Indian cinema she was right to react. First they asked her if she would do a romantic films with Ranbir – this is just ratcheting up the ante. She is a Diva so most appropriate behavior. I wonder how Aish would react to a similar question – she refused the Dostana role because she is now married to Abhishek and felt that people would not be willing to accept her in that role. She is another bona fide Diva and reacted accordingly.

She never left the press conference. Her Director of KI, Shabbir was with her and she simply refused to answer and moved on to the next question. The journo (from some punjabi channel) just made up her story of leaving the press conference later on.
