Clashing of the big films at box-office is a common phenomenon, but it seems Aamir Khan deliberately wants Three Idiots to release in tandem with SRK’s My Name is Khan.

This has become a bone of contention between director Raj Kumar Hirani and Aamir Khan, as the former wants to release the film at the year end.

The director and the actor have had long discussions about the release date. A source informs that even though Aamir has given an impression to Raju that he can decide the final date, he has definite plans of his own.

And that is probably why Aamir Khan went on a vacation with his kids delaying Raju’s project. Smart strategy Aamir!

MNIK is scheduled for 3rd week of November , and Three Idiots for Xmas .This is just another case where media is trying to create a clash between Aamir and Srk , they just cant leave both of them alone .. so i dont see this happening, and if somehow this is true i am afraid i dont find this interesting nor excellent … I mean both movies will end up eating into each other’s business, dont think Aamir , Srk , Hirani or any of us would want that considering the fact how this year has gone so far for Bollywood , still waiting for the first clean hit in 2009 . Either way i see both the movies being the biggest of the year . Btw Tango Bhai if you really wanna pray for something you should pray that this multiplex issue gets sorted out soon and we get some entertainment.

KJO’s ‘wake up sid’ is scheduled for Oct release … not sure if Dharma will release both their movies back to back …also with SRK’s injury, wasnt the shooting delayed?

MNIK may not be even ready before X-mas.

Going by aamir’s interviews in recent times, its evident the man still has difficulty in accepting the fact that he was lagging behind SRK in the 90s … he wants to desperately drive home the fact that he isnt far behind the race now with absurd quotes in all his public appearances.

The dog-fight between the two is most embarrassing for the industry … and this kiddish fight isnt going anywhere … it may as well get decided by releasing the two movies together and see who indeed is the King or Kinng or whatever … no one has able to dislodge SRK from the top inspite of one of the other three having a great year over the last three years.

Pitch the movies together … two commercial movies by two reputed directors … whoever opens better settles the score about the #1 issue … if the movies are good they will do blockbuster business anyways … releasing Lagaan/Gadar or TZP/Welcome did not cause any heartbreaks.

As for multiplex issues, it will get sorted out when movies are ready for release … solving the plex issue without the industry churning out good movies is going to entertain no one.

Doing one movie a year was Aamir’s own idea, but i guess that was way too early in career, just like hrithik(although its paying off for both of them).

This i guess will be the first year since 1999 when aamir will have more movies releasing than SRK( 2 to 1, if dhobi ghat releases this year).

SRK with doing 1 or at max 2 movies a year is making sure none of his film is a flop(i guess 2001 was the last year when he was doing commercial movies which were flopping, a swades or a paheli are different creatures).

Aamir i think should devote more to his work as he usually does and in him actually we can have the first star in bollywood history to keep being lead actor after 48-50 age aka kamal hassan, a feat that even likes of big b or dharam couldnt pull off.

Aamir vs SRK 2005 onwards(Aamir’s return)

    Movie to Movie

2005 – Mangal Pandey vs Paheli

    2006 – Fanaa/RDB vs Don/Kank

    2007 – OSO/CDI vs TZP

2008 – Ghajini vs Rab ne

    Its pretty much equal.

Year wise we can had it to Aamir but its a close call.

Btw, no idea when Dhobi Ghat is releasing … but its as much a Aamir movie as Billu was SRK’s .. even in 2007 he did a double as a director and actor, producing one of the finest movies of bollywood in the last few years … that too in a year when Akshay was at par with SRK as far as BO is concerned.

If this clash does happen, 3 Idiots will open better in India … due to big difference in multiplex business … and MNIK will open better overseas.

Ach, i dont even need to say how much hype Aamir will create with 3 idiots in the teen/youth to whom the movie will be targetted, heck Aamir can even feed the so called elite Multiplex audiance something like Ghajini and they lap on to it, remember Ghajini is the kind of stuff we use to generalise the failure of Salman/Sunny in recent years.

It will be literally idiotic to bring anything near 3 Idiots.

MNIK is another biggie this year. SRK/KJO/Kajol combo cant be relegated to second seat, but i guess this is the year as you said, last time this happened was in 2000 when Hrithik wave took over the SRK/Chopra combo.

Charles – The SRK/Chopra and SRK/KJO combos have not been as effective in the last 10 years than what it was in the 90s … mohabattein cud not open better than even a Mission Kashmir, final gross was far less than KNPH … SRK/KJO/Kajol had Hrithik and Amitabh in it … still lagged behind Gadar at BO … VZ did well … but KANK did an MP in India, 4-5 movies did better than it in 06 … RNBDJ lagged as much as 30 cr behind Ghajini.

As far as SRK/YRF or SRK/KJO is concerned … its no more than a case of diminishing returns.

Its unlikely that MNIK will flop, but i dont expect a ghajini out of it either.

Hirani is a massy director … and after DCH/RDB no other has as much multiplex audience (specially the youth) than Aamir Khan.

Agree and disagree…Does the youth only comprise the mulitiplex going audince…Surveys have shown that about 50-60 % of the footfalls to the multiplex is from tyhe age group of 25-40 and this is a age group where SRK Rules..But yes i must say even Aamir have a good following in this group..

I seriously hope that the two films do not clash. Moviegoers would want to watch both films and it would only be fair and right if the films were released with a gap of about a month between them. So 3 Idiots could be a Christmas 2009 release (since Aamir feels that Christmas has been lucky for him); and MNIK could be released during mid-Jan 2010 when Jan 15th is a Friday. If MNIK is being delayed because of SRK’s surgery and IPL, the Republic day mood of Jan would be ideal.I feel fans of both stars should make it clear vide internet forums, that they would not appreciate a clash.

If these two kids give up the fetish to prove who is bigger, I can say hands down that it would be a poor commercial decision to have these two movies clash. Both 3 Idiots and MNIK are amongst the top 3 awaited films of 2009 and both should ahve enough breathing space to maximie their gains at the BO.

Ghajini worked better and overshadowed RNBDJ becasue the latter was just a poor film which ran completely on the BO clout of SRK. Ghajini was a remake of two succesful films and had immense curiosity factor attached to it for HIndi movie cinegoers as well as Asin was common factor to the Tamil and Hindi version.

I think it will be a bit of a role reversal this time around. MNIK will carry more curiousity than 3 Idiots and going by the stills, the former does look very interesting. Nothing like the last two frivolous projects of KJO. So if I were Aamir, and if this story has any truth that Aamir wants a clash with MNIK, I wouldn’t stretch my luck this time around.

Unless the movie is too bad (which I doubt) … the LRM goodwill and Aamir factor can make it really very big.
