SP vows to abolish English, computers

LUCKNOW: The Samajwadi Party has vowed to work against the use of English in education and computers in new projects. While these are pitched as populist measures — abolition of “expensive education in English” would allegedly create a level playing field for all and less use of computers would generate jobs — the steps are being viewed with alarm as they have the potential to drag back the country by years.

Releasing the party manifesto here on Saturday, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav dwelt on his pet anti-English theme. The manifesto says that if a new government were to be formed with SP’s support, it would work to abolish schools providing expensive education in English — in other words, virtually every public school regarded among the country’s top schools. Interestingly, Mulayam Singh’s two sons have gone to such schools.

While speaking to reporters, Mulayam Singh said he was against “the compulsory use of English language in education, administration and judiciary”. He said SP favoured the national language, Hindi, and regional languages. To give his anti-top grade education a populist spin, he said his party was in favour of free education for girls until graduation.

On computers, Mulayam said their use was leading to unemployment. He added that wherever work can be done by hand, computers would be abolished. As everything was done by hand until the advent of computers, the step, if taken to its logical conclusion, could lead to the scrapping of almost all computers. Later, it was clarified that less use of computers would be enforced only in new projects — again, something that could put new projects at a disadvantage vis-a-vis older ones.

Well..there is no denying that Sanjay Dutt is making a fool of himself…Well nothing better is expected out of him once he associated himself with the “”greatest Dalla”" of Our country(Amar Singh)..Whoever got associated with the dalla have made a follm of himself(Amitabh Included)…Recall that ad where Amitabh said empathically”"UP mein Jaan hai”"”

Its also not a surprise that SP doesnt want their core vote bank (Muslim and Yadava)to get litarate..Because once the Yadavs and Muslims are educated why on earth they would vote for SP ????

Amitabh has a long association with Amar Singh – one of obligation to Mr. Singh. It is good to see that he has maintained his relationship with the gentlemen. But does it have to be such an overtly public one? I think it diminishes Mr. Bachchan to be constantly seen with and defending Amar Singh, though I admire his idealism in dropping Mr. Singh like a hot potato.

There is a big difference there…I hope you understand…

Coming back to Amitabh, his personal equation with Amar is his personal domain and we sdnt be overly worried about that, what worries us is his public gestures with Amar Singh(Like the campaign he did for the SP in 2004)…Thats where he looses some of his credibility and should be more careful…

what is mall culture. 50 Rs product in 100 Rs and all items to be sold on MRP even in food baazar like chains.
Retailing by big houses and chains are affecting the small shopkeepers and retailers in big way, not in city but also in small towns. Small towns affect is too big. One or two megamarts like vishal etc had eaten the whole market.

I just pointed to emphasis that each country is different and each economy is different, even the needs of different individuals are not same. “No internet” can affect me badly but will have no effect on my parents similarly bad roads can affect some one travelling in car but not to the person who does not even have chappals to wear.
So just neglecting some one’s manifesto becuase it does not suits ur requirements does not mean it is bad or have no takers.

The main advantage of democracy is that here the elite or so called elite groups has same say as ordinary people (or less say as ordinary are more in numbers).
And i also donot buy the theory that ordinary people are less intelligent, they also knows what suits them most.

I have no problems with choice of parties and who one campaigns for.

But I simply hate these kind of regressive politics that VP Singh, Mulayam, Laloo, Devi Lal and Charan Singh etc. practiced and practice.

The year was 89- 90 (I think) and it from then that that India went down hill as far as development and investment in infrastructure is concerned.

On a related note: I am sure if we go through the manifestos of all the parties, we will find some problem or the other. The reality is that most of the parties and the electorate don’t care what’s on the manifesto and this leads to situations like the one SP is facing now.

See there has to be something favouring the major segments that supports your party in the manifesto, but things like Coke-Pepsi band kar do, problem solve ho jayega, dont capture stray-rabid dogs (they may be attacking kids, its there in newspapers everyday), Valentine mat manao values will return, yeh kya hai.

Why not we will invest and encourage foreign investment in infrastructure. More eviorenment friendly power plants. We will give utmost priority to security and ans stabilty of the country. More stringent survellance at public places etc.
