The last time when Salman Khan and producer Boney Kapoor joined hands, the result was in the form of NO ENTRY, the biggest hit of 2005. Now Boney Kapoor Productions’ has once again teamed up with Salman Khan in the film WANTED which is all set to hit the screens worldwide on 3rd July.
Boney Kapoor’s ambitious film WANTED a remake of the regional film POKHRI is directed by popular choreographer/actor Prabhu Deva. WANTED is his first directorial venture in Hindi. But it is not a frame-to-frame adaptation of POKHRI. Apart from Salman Khan it also stars Ayesha Takia, Om Puri, Mahesh Manjrekar, Mehak and Southern star Prakash Raj. It has the chart bursting music by duo Sajid-Wajid.
Synopsis:
Radhe (Salman Khan) is one of the wheels of the mafias, but with a difference. He is a trained street fighter and shooter who is totally fearless. A man who can keep his cool, in a situation where death itself is looking at him in the eye. He is rebellious and loves to defy authority. He cannot think of being in any other position but the leader’s, always fighting his way to impossible goals. He works for Ali bhai, the most dreaded Mafioso, but on his own terms.
Mafia Don Alibhai (Prakash Raj) has a great mind for strategy, which is razor sharp. He stays in a foreign country but comes to India whenever the need arises. He is revered and feared by friends and foes alike. Ali bhai is the worst enemy anyone could wish for. He is vindictive to the point of being sadistic. He will not only destroy his enemy but wipe him off completely.
Radhe is in love with a girl named Jhanvi (Ayesha Takia). They share a strange love hate relationship. Jhanvi tries to change him by imploring him to leave the world of crime, but Radhe, though he loves her, is too hardcore a criminal to adhere to her wishes.
Radhe moves ahead in his criminal world by single handedly eliminating Ali bhai’s enemies with his wit, grit and fearless strategy. A time comes when Ali bhai, whom Radhe has never seen arrives in India specially to meet him. He then offers Radhe a job, which Radhe for the first time refuses point blank, in return making Alibhai his biggest enemy. Then comes the surprise element of the story, a twist that changes the very premise on which the story is based on. A shocking twist that makes Radhe WANTED DEAD by the mafia and ALIVE by the law.

The director is Prabhudeva, who has an excellent track record in the South: his Telugu film Nuvvostante Nenodhantaana was a big hit (kinda like Maine Pyar Kiya), and then he directed the Tamil remake (GHILLI) of the Telugu smash hit Okkadu, which was also a big hit.

Prabhu Deva also directed Pokkiri Tamil version. Not sure how it fared on the BO.

Actually that’s what I meant (Ghilli was directed by Dharani).

PrabhuDeva also directed Vijay’s latest flop … ‘Villu’– All style and no substance.
Pokiri worked in Telugu mainly due to Mahesh Babu factor …. The role sure requires to be carried off with a certain spunk which is almost a part of Salman’s off screen personality. I can clearly imagine Salman in the role.
But with Salman it would become very very routine and insipid. The movie would certainly lose its flavor. IMO Hrithik’s ultra cool act or even Abhishek’s gruff act would work for Pokiri. Salman is too stale for it …

Salman looks like ayesha takia’s dad. As it is she has a very “kid” sort of face…

She does have a kid sort of face, but not the rest of her body if you know what I mean Q bhai.

By the way Pokiri is too violent for Bwood, Ghajini was accepted inspite of its violence because of Aamir, but I doubt Salman will be able to carry it off.

I like Mahesh in these action films so much that I find it very hard to accept Salman in Wanted…

PS– agree with Ravibhai that Pokiri might be too violenet/masala for audiences today, especially given the lead does not have the audience credibility Aamir does. Part of me hopes I am wrong, as perhaps we could see some kind of masala revival if this succeeds too…

Wanted is a big film for Salman but I think he’s beyond the BO game now.
He’s hanging somewhere in the top 5 precisely because both Saif and Abhishek are delivering duds. So unless these two start giving hits or Ranbir gets a big one, Salman stays where he is by default.
