Ranbir – Imran a riot at the Filmfare Awards

It’s the season for hit jodis. While award winners Hrithik and Priyanka are the pair of the year for their sterling performance, another hit pair wowed audiences at the 54th Idea Filmfare Awards 2008. Bollywood’s boy wonders Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan replaced stars Shah Rukh and Saif as hosts at the awards night.Taking potshots at each other, cracking jokes about the audience and ensuring themselves roles in Dostana 2, Ranbir and Imran kept the audience rolling in the aise with their razor sharp wit and crackerjack comments.
Sample this: “Bura mat manna, lekin log tera last name sun kar Aamir Khan ke baare mein sochte hain. I am the future,’’ said Ranbir. “Aur tera last name sunkar Sonam kapoor ke baare mein sochte hain. I am the future,’’ quipped Imran. The two also did imitations of SRK in Rab Ne (Ranbir) and Aamir in Ghajini (Imran).

On the red carpet, they were overheard discussing that Karan Johar had started the show. “I just hope we don’t end up finishing it,” they mock shuddered! As the newest Khan on the block said, “There will be Rekhaji, Rakeshji out there…,” the latest entrant from the Kapoor khandaan added, “Yaar, I’m just scared of Rishiji and Neetuji…”

A happy Shreya Ghoshal, who won Best Playback Singer couldn’t stop raving about anchors Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan. She said, “Imran and Ranbir are so hot, so witty, but they both have girlfriends, so no luck for me!” She was all praises for Oscar winner AR Rahman, too and his passion for music.

‘Too low-end for me!’

Is what Ranbir Kapoor told an international denim brand when he was approached for endorsement deal.

Strange are the ways of B-Town. Ranbir Kapoor recently turned down an offer to endorse a denim brand — one, whose women’s range his girlfriend Deepika Padukone already endorses.

Pricey reputation
Says an advertising industry source, “Ranbir Kapoor might have had releases, that too which didn’t do well, but he has already acquired a pricey reputation in the advertising world. He has refused two big deals —an international suiting and shirting brand and the international denims brand. While for the suiting brand, the price wasn’t enough, he felt the denim brand was low-end and not expensive enough. Akshay Kumar is the brand ambassador of the high-end range, which is the original jeans brand. Ranbir felt the one they offered him was too commonplace and wanted to endorse along with Akki instead but since the makers have a contract with Akshay already and are happy with him, they refused Ranbir. That’s when Ranbir walked out of the deal.”
Shahid Kapoor has now stepped in to do the ad Ranbir refused. The source adds, “Ranbir’s refusal was strange considering his own girlfriend Deepika is the only other celebrity in India who currently endorses brand’s signature range of denims for women – which caters to the young college-going group. The whole concept of this brand has more to do with lifestyles than pricing — it’s about what people with certain lifestyles can go for. Ranbir was even offered more than Rs 1.25 crore for the deal but even the money wasn’t enough. Akshay’s brand may be more exclusive and expensive but the lower end products always sell more. Anyway, Shahid fits in with the brand concept as he’s a youth icon and known to be hip and trendy.”
When contacted, a representative from the denim brand said, “We approach many stars so it would be unfair to comment on any one. We can only talk about the one who has been finalised, which we shall reveal at the right time.”
Ranbir Kapoor remained unavailable for comment.

‘Ranbir is his own man’

Rishi Kapoor gets candid about his son Ranbir and talks about himself as a parent.
By: Chhaya S.

The proudest moment of my life was when I accpeted the ‘Best Newcomer’ award on Ranbir’s behalf, not just because I was a proud father but also because I know my son will be carrying the legacy of his family on his shoulders now. Actually I can’t take much credit for raising him, because Neetu was the one who was always there for him. He is what he is today because of his mother. If he were in my hands alone, pata nahi kya hota.

Ranbir, right from his teens, was his own man. He’s never come to me with his problems during college and nor does he do it now when it comes to his movies. I’m impressed by the way he resolves all his problems himself. He has become very responsible over time and that’s a lot more than what I can say about myself even today. I just wish he’d open up to me more than he usually does. He is more open with his mother. But I try and be a friend to him and will always be the strong hand when he needs it.

Even when it comes to acting, Ranbir is more like his grandfather. He is meticulous, professional and gives his everything to any role. I was always more easy going and spontaneous, which worked in my time. But he tells me that if he uses the same approach today, he’s be slaughtered! He is too focussed – I wish sometimes he’d go out and have a life like we did. Needless to say he will go a long way and I can’t wait to see him achieve all the success he deserves. That’s why I keep asking him to do more films now. But I suppose ‘one film at a time’ works for him. So be it.

Ranbir’s personal life never worries me. When your son grows up, youa re always thinking of the girls he’s going to go out with and the one he will bring back home. At least Neetu thinks about it a lot. But Ranbir isn’t reckless or irresponsible when it comes to matters of the heart. That’s comforting for both of us because we know we have raised him well enough for him to make the right choices. But again, what we might think is the right choice for him, might not really be the right choice according to him. And he will do his own thing anyway. Shaadi toh bachche apni marzi se hi karenge, no matter what we say. I certainly don’t want to be the villainous father, and antohonise my own son. It’s his life and he’s always led it the way he’s wanted to. He’s done a fine job of it. So, why should I get all controlling now?

Ranbir Kapoor refused to star in Kunal Kohli’s next since he wanted some major changes in the script, which he thought was too hackneyed.
By Parag Maniar

While most know that Ranbir Kapoor turned down the offer to star in Kunal Kohli’s next romantic comedy, not many know the reason for Ranbir’s refusal.Kunal had approached Ranbir to play the lead in his next film, which is being produced by Reliance’s Big Entertainment with whom Kunal has signed a three-film deal.According to a reliable source, the real reason why Ranbir refused Kunal’s film was because the young actor wanted some major changes in the script.A source close to the actor said, “Ranbir was not too excited about the subject of Kunal’s romantic comedy. Ranbir felt that the audience’s taste had changed and they didn’t want to see the cliched stuff over and over again. That’s when Ranbir told Kunal to make some changes in the script to which Kunal agreed albeit reluctantly.”

Ranbir and Kunal had another meeting after the required changes were made in the script. “To Kunal’s dismay, Ranbir was still not happy with the script. Kunal attempted to make Ranbir see things from his perspective but Ranbir refused to relent.Kunal even tried to reason with Ranbir by citing several examples of how Yash Raj Films have had similar themes told in different ways.Ranbir continued to be unconvinced as he firmly believes that hackneyed story lines do not work with the new generation. Ranbir told Kunal that only a fresh story line would work,” added our source. This time, Kunal refused to buy Ranbir’s argument. “Kunal’s opinion was that the taste of the Indian viewers will never change and that hackneyed plots still went down well with the masses.Unfortunately, the lengthy discussion was a futile attempt by Kunal. A trifle irritated Kunal compared Ranbir to his father Rishi Kapoor. The director told Ranbir that though his father had been a superstar, Ranbir still had a long way to go as an actor. This did not go down well with Ranbir who has always maintained that he wants to star in films that were different from the ones that his father had done over the years,” said our source.

“Now, Kunal Kohli is currently considering either Imran Khan or Shahid Kapur to play the lead actor in his forthcoming film. But he has not approached them as yet,” said the source.

When contacted, Kunal said, “I haven’t completed the script so approaching Ranbir or anybody else is out of question.”

awww RK is rising up in stature and giving you indigestion?? What will happen when he reaches number 1? Don’t let your condition generate to the point where you need laparoscopic surgeries, get some treatment done. Maybe you can ask a doc to inject some RK-hate antibodies into your system.

According to my SB sources ( very credible and unbiased) he already has a semi-hit sohniye :P

and before we jump on the star-kids monopolizing filmfare bandwagon, I would like to ask where were you guys when Javed Jaffery hosted it (star kid right?)or Saif Ali Khan or Sanjana Kapoor :P Noone seems to care if a Minissha Lamba hosts an award ceremony, that is very casually forgotten. Why? oh because then we cant bash the “star-kids” na :( And Rajeev Khandelwal first needs to get off his high horses if he really wants to work, either in movies or TV!

I have to say this, I am really disappointed. You guys cant even come with decent dissing, tut tut!

As far as I remember, I was the first one who posted a RK article on NG and I remember only akshay shah and tango being upbeat about him along with moi, NOT YOU :P

Semi-hit with three beautiful ladies and one of the best music albums that year! Abhi bahut kaam baaki hai. And FF was kind of dull with the two youngsters hosting. If they want to be funny they have to start taking potshots or get trained in standup comedy.

Three beautiful ladies who cant make the movie run on their own, a good music album (every actor needs that, even the likes of SRK, AK (Khan and Kumar) can’t do without one, cases like A Wednesday are exceptional). Filmfare was good when these two were on stage, the ladies bored everyone to death. There’s a difference between emoting and the lines being said, the emoting was his, the lines weren’t. Yes he goofed up in parts but he was still charming and endearing and very very funny :D to me atleast and the people around me. Try comparing FF with other shows and you will see the difference :P I recommend watching Stardust Awards with Tusshar Kapoor ASAP!
