MUMBAI: You’re only as big as your last hit, right? Perhaps that’s what explains how actor Aamir Khan, who was nowhere on the 2007 Filmfare Power List, is up there at No. 1 this year. It must have something to do with the Rs 265 crore (gross) that his film ‘Ghajini’ earned worldwide, making it the biggest hit in the history of Bollywood.

The actor has also scored a hat trick by emerging first in the pecking order of actors and directors as well. As for producers, the father-son team of Yash and Aditya Chopra is still the top name in the game, but Aamir is close behind — his two films ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ and ‘Taare Zameen Par’ had the box-office jingling sweetly.

Shah Rukh Khan remains entrenched at No. 2. Yash and Aditya Chopra, for two years in a row, are down to No. 3, preceded by the two Khans — Aamir and Shah Rukh — who are now eyed as the two power centres in filmnagari.

I think they got it right this time. Aamir definitely should be no 1 this year with a directing success / producing success / acting success

I dare say his Tata Sky jig is probably the most successful brand endorsement of the year..

Agree with the list..Aamir indeed should be no.1 in the list…

Regarding Tatasky jig…i am not sure if its the most succesful but yes its one of the most successful campaigns…In the DTH segment Dish TV is no.1 promoted by SRK which have 42 PCt market share followed by Tata sky which have 27 pct share…

Dish TV was No 1 even before SRK’s campaign. Now however it is losing its market share to Tata sky and Airtel live

No one would really dispute Aamir as No. 1 with back to back successes in JTJYN, TZP and Ghajini (ATBB) as a producer, director and actor outscoring SRK in the 2008 Power list.

Power list-2008
1. Aamir Khan
2. Shah Rukh Khan
3. Yash and Aditya Chopra
4. Ronnie Screwvala
5. Karan Johar
6. Akshay Kumar
7. Farhan Akhtar
8. A R Rahman
9. Hrithik Roshan
10. Kareena Kapoor

However Yash raj at No.3 and Farhan at No. 7 do not make much sense. Both of them have had a fairly mediocre 2007/08 with only CDI and RNBDJ working at the BO and both of them starred Shahrukh khan.

Aishwarya in my view should be ahead of Kareena. UTV at No. 4 is perfectly deserving. They had a tremendous year in 2007 and 2008 with Welcome, TZp, Jodhaa Akbar, Aamir, and Race hitting the bulls eye and an Average in fashion. I would put Ronnie Screwala ahead of YR and Aditya Chopra. They have taken a blow with Delhi6 but am sure have many exciting projects in 2009 and 10 which should help in keeping their brandname intact.

couple of corrections.

# UTV deserve to be in the top 5 but in my view should actually be in the top 3 (ahead of YR) with some phenomenal and prestigious successe at the BO in the past 2 years. Unlike YR have seen most of their successes in romance, UTV has ventured into more complex and topical themes.

# Farhan at No. 7 also does not make sense as the only film that he has in this period is Rock On and that was not a big league film.

YEah UTV shud be up there in the top 3 … YRF, Farhan and Kareena in the list hardly makes any sense.

Airtel is have only 3 pct market share till now as far as DTH is concerned…No.1 spot is held by Dish TV by a margin…Its only the fight between Tata ky and Sun Direct for the no.2 spot…Airtel and Big tv are nowhere in the picture..

This verymuch is similar to to the spots in BW…(SRK being at no.1 by a margin and no.2 is fight between aamir,HR and akki and every year it changes)

Aamir is a regular absentee in award functions from mid ninties….Asina,prasun Joshi(Ghajini team)were present so as Abbas Tyrewala(jane tu team)…..I wonder whom you are reffering to…

I meant clearly Aamir gang on NG. – lalsub, satyam,jayshah, Qalandar, Ideaunique, Sandy…
And jusy fyi ..Aamir is not absentee from these functions from mid nineties but from 1992
