interesting move from srk this year..paying filmfare not to give him an award..i can’t recall a single year when there has been an srk superhit and the best actor award has gone to some other actor!

or maybe filmfare just decided to do a pepsi..ignore the oldies.

arbit, it’s not true. there are many examples when SRK had superhits, but couldn’t win the best actor awards. Example-

-2000,SRK had Mohabbatein, But Hrithik won for KNPH.
-2003, SRK had KHNH, But Hrithik won for KMG.
-2006, SRK had Don and KANK, but Hrithik won for Dhoom 2.
-2008, SRK had RNBDJ, but Hrithik won for JA.

Actually the thing is, whenever Hrithik had a hit or a superhit, he got the best actor award and I can’t recall a single year when it didn’t happen.

Hritik was nominated for Lakshya and SRK won for Swades. Lakshya was an average film and Swades a flop or below avg, but in that same year SRK did have 2 other huge hits!

With Hrithik winning his 4th Best actor filmfare in JA,now is behind only srk(7) and Dilip kumar(8) and I am quite sure he will supersede both of them in the coming years.

It has also been noted that since 2000(Hrithik’s debut) the best actor trophy is virtually alternating between hrithik and srk with 1-2 exceptions.

Track record for best actor since 2000:

    2000: Hrithik (KNPH)
    2001: aamir khan (lagaan)
    2002: SRK (DEVDAS)
    2003: Hrithik (KMG)
    2004: SRK (SWADES)
    2005: amitabh (black)
    2006: Hrithik (D2)
    2007: SRK (CDI)
    2008: Hrithik (JA)

Clearly,Hrithik has become a nemesis of srk at the filmfare!
Akshay and Aamir are virtually non-entities at almost all award functions. The reasons being that Akshay is happy in his mediocrity and doesnt want to try something “out of the box” and even when he goes out of his way to try something “different”,the dabbler that he is,messes it up abysmally.Aamir ,on the other hand, has surely got the talent but he is so caught up in his own world that he refuses to acknowledge other talents and any one else’s movie .His ostentatiousness and recalcitrant attitude just doesn’t work.So it eventually boils down to Hrithik v/s srk at almost every award function. This year they have Kites and MNIK resp and both films will allow them to explore themselves further as an actor and I hope Hrithik wins again! :)

manoj – good thoughts. Tho i feel with the role that SRK is playing – he will walk away with the award unless its a terrible movie and he has over hammed it..

btw my ranking of the 9 awards above given by Manoj

    1. Swades
    2. Lagaan
    3. JA
    4. CDI
    5. KMG
    6. Black
    7. KNPH
    8. D2
    9. Devdas

8 and 9 are equally bad IMO :-)
Interesting part is that top 3 are Ashutosh movies. I think he is to hindi movies what Mani ratnam is to tamil movies. Easily the most talented director around along with Raju. Where he scores above Raju is that he has made 3 diverse movies unlike Raju

    Naseer on Filmfare/Indian Awards:

    LINK

    Excerpt:
A Wednesday didn’t bag a single award despite nominations in several categories.
(Sarcastically) I know, that’s terrible. I had told producer Anjum (Rizvi) that we should have started our campaign much earlier. We were late in booking the awards.

Anjum Rizvi is apparently very upset.
Yeah, I’m sure he was naïve enough to believe that awards had some meaning. Neeraj (Pandey) and he went all decked up for it.

At some award show, the Critics Award was announced for Mumbai Meri Jaan. Later a jury member came up and said that the previously announced award actually had two winners.. and gave a trophy to Neeraj also. There was no explanation about how that slip up happened.

Anyone who takes these random award shows seriously needs a psychiatrist. For Anjum to believe that he would win an award was dumb. When I spoke to him after the show, he was nearly in tears.

You were nominated in the best actor category alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan.
(Hiding his face) Oh, you also know about this now? I can’t tell you how upset I am for not having won the award. Don’t you know by now that I only work with the awards in mind? I’m so angry. (Laughs) I’m not surprised by their choices though. Maybe next year, they will give me something.

I am surprised that Naseer of all the people has questioned the authenticity of the awards, when he himself has been a glad recepient of 3 filmfares and 2 National Awards.

1980: National Film Awards for Best Actor, Sparsh
1980: Filmfare Best Actor Award, Aakrosh
1981: Filmfare Best Actor Award, Chakra
1983: Filmfare Best Actor Award, Masoom
1985: National Film Awards for Best Actor, Paar

In fact between him and Sanjeev Kumar getting quite a few awards in Amitabh bachchan’s peak career, Amitabh was deprived of the Best Actor Award for some remarkable performances in this period. But have you ever heard Bachchan pull a face in apathy or contempt against these these awards?

Maybe some feel that A Wednesday deserved the final accolade or recognition, but there are many out there who have not even seen this film hence the jury didn’t consider it as a winner in the Popular category. It could have adjudged best film at best in the Critics category but at the end of the day you can only have one winner.

On a sidenote, it was really heartening to watch SRK acknowledge the Oscar winning team of SDM (the kids). I think that was a benign gesture and shows what a good hearted person he is. I loved the part where he says that we should leave aside our views and reservations on the film for the moment and congratulate these kids who have represented India at the Oscars and a film which has at its centrepiece the theme of hope and tomorrow.

SRK has been impressing me more and more of late and I am glad that the Bachchan – SRK strife has been put to rest with a consolidated show by the two families. They are both icons and role models for different generations.

Aishwarya looked a million buck in a saree and cheering all the presentations by the two MCs. Kareena looked ethereal. Abhishek although looked fitter than before really needs to work on his appearance and hairdo to get his next hit.

Was a bit woebegone not to find Hrithik in the grand show. I believe he was with his mom at the hospital.

    Julie,

Infact i am impressed by Abhishek as he was applauding all the winners with gusto…When you are good at heart looks are immaterial…

I am happy to see two of my favorite stars (SRK and Amitabh) at one platform without any aminosity..Also it was good of SRK to acknowledge Amitabhs’ gesture publicly(About amitabhs visist to mannat). It should send a message to everybody, that there are no more enemies…

I missed Hritik and also Akshay Kumar.Akki always rocked at past Filmfare shows…

Yes Raj. Loved the way Abhishek was encouraging the MCs. He is a good guy, but the fact remains that for BO and commercial success (it might be irrelevant in the context of the present topic), an actor cannot just depend on good heartedness. There are several permutations that play a role. Look at Aamir for example. Whatever opinion one may have of him as a person, one cannot deny his magnetic pull at the BO.
