Get ready for the glittering night of the 54th Idea Filmfare Awards 2008, scheduled for February 28, 2009
Movies that are nominated under the Best Film category this year are Dostana, Ghajini, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Jodhaa Akbar, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Rock On!
While Rab ne … and Ghajini have got the maximum Filmfare nominations in various categories this year, celebs reveal their own pick from the bunch of popular films of 2008.
Mandira Bedi
Actor
From all the movies that I saw last year, I really appreciate Jodhaa Akbar and Rock On!. Jodhaa Akbar is a beautiful film and no wonder it won accolades from the industry too. I must say, Ashutosh Gowariker is a filmmaker with great magnitude. I liked Rock On! as well, as the movie was not about a hero; it was about its characters. The plot was really cool and audiences literally rocked with the rock band.
Manoj Bajpai
Actor
I am sure there will be a tussle for the best film title between Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and Rock On! Jaane Tu… showcased so many colours of relationships in the modern society. Be it a mother-son bond or the warmth between friend, everything was portrayed so well. Watching Rock On! was an enthralling experience. Be it music, treatment or the story line, it was literally a path-breaking movie.
Rohit Roy
Television actor
Though I liked all these movies for different reasons, I think there will be a very tough fight between Jodhaa Akbar and Rock On! Jodhaa Akbar is any director’s dream, it’s shot like poetry and the credit for all the success goes to Ashutosh. On the other hand, Rock On! is a movie about chasing your dreams, something that I really relate to.
Manish Goel
Actor
Aamir Khan is somebody I really look up to and I was completely bowled over by his performance in Ghajini . His look, the way he portrayed his character, all the hard work that he has put in was visible on screen. I am not favouring Ghajini for only its box office success, but because it deserves the award. Apart from Ghajini , another strong entry is Rock On! Since the time the movie has released, I start my morning with its music. Whenever I feel low, I listen to these songs. Other films competing for the title were good, but these two exceeded expectations.
Raajeshwari Singh Badola
Actor
My vote goes to Jodhaa Akbar , you get to see a movie like this just once in many years. Though all the movies nominated with it are also good, I think Jodhaa Akbar will definitely have an edge over the others. Ashutosh is such a great director and the romantic angle of the movie came out so beautifully.
Sangeeta Ghosh
Actor
I think Jodhaa Akbar deserves the Best Film award completely. The movie was phenomenal from every aspect, be it technically, lavish costumes, sets, story line or the business it did.

what beld? AR Rehman has won best score for Jodhaa Akbar not JTYJN
Yes seems like it will be a clean sweep between Ghajini and Jodhaa Akbar. Have a feeling Ghajini will get one award in the manistrem category.

sorry beld, neelu, utkal, som. I can’t help this holler of joy.
Ashutosh Gowariker wins Best Director Award
Best Director: Ashutosh Gowariker from Jodhaa Akbar ; Presented by Preity Zinta and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra
Hrithik Roshan wins Best Actor (Male) for Jodhaa Akbar
Best Actor (Male): Hrithik Roshan from Jodhaa Akbar ; Presented by Rekha, Shahid Kapoor and Katrina Kaif.
Hrithik Roshan wasn’t present at the occasion and hence his director Ashutosh Gowariker picked his award.

Julie – good for Hritik! He deserved this award. I have a few comments to make to those who keep talking in a derogatory fashion about FF awards:
1. Only those who are present get awards – HR was not there.
2. SRK always buys his awards – he ran out of money this year I guess or Papa Roshan came up with more money? Give credit where it is due folks and stop being crabs.
3. The venue is Yash Raj studios so the YRF products walk away with the awards – was JA stealthily funded by YRF? Again give credit where it is due and stop being crabs!
Congratulations to all the winners – we may agree or not (how much did we debate SM – the film that won 8 oscars!), but these awards are still a broad consensus appreciation of talent and a celebration.

Congrats to the winners!
JA sweeped all the major awards – Best Movie, Best Director, Best Actor.
And once again after Screen Awards and Stardust, Hrithik and Priyanka bagged the Best actor trophies.
I am surprised that Hrithik wasnt present in the ceremony to receive the best actor award.

Just because FF awarded a wonderful movie does not mean they are not crap. There is no denying they are crap.
My main objection to these awards is still valid (also in case of JA) – they give more importance to the people behind work than appreciating “actual” work. If you know what I mean.
A C H I L L E S 28 February 2009
04:35:11 pm
Dont know what that means, but as far as JA is concerned the best work was appreciated this year … happy for that.
An UTV venture winning the top awards inside YRF studio when Rab Ne was a considerably higher grosser does say something.
Even last year SRK deservedly won for CDI .. but it was again a YRF movie … but the way its going, FF seems to be taking the right steps forward in these last two years.

I am sure Neelu you don’t agree with the following awards. As you have allergy for anything related to Aamir
Best Sensational Debut (Male): Farhan Akhtar and Imraan Khan
Best Sensational Debut (Female): Asin Thottumkal for Ghajini
Best Choreography : Longines for Pappu Can’t Dance Sala . ( Jaane Tu…)
Now that these people got award and not your fav. RNBDJ (for choreography and Female debut) – you can say that FF is not a crap and prove your point that its not SRK centric……
win win situation for u …as always
Cheers!

Ritz – if there was logic behind your post it completely escaped me. Are you saying that the Imraan, Asin and Pappu awards were CRAP? please be clear in your statements.

I think you got my point but ……
neelu 28 February 2009
05:14:26 pm
No I did not – either all these awards are crap or they have credibility. And you still make no point or sense. I am not cribbing about any awards am I? But you seem to be on some crib about me. Please stay focused on the topic, something that is cinema related and NG member related.
neelu 28 February 2009

AND *NOT* NG member related.

We always have a habit of complaining, dont we? When the deserving ones dont win, we complain. Even when they win we keep complaining!
I am unsure if this is indeed coming of age of Filmfare awards, but it surely is an improvement which should be encouraged.
Also its better to focus on the topic instead of any member.

“Please stay focused on the topic, something that is cinema related and NG member related.”
Does this mean using terms like “those who keep talking in a derogatory fashion about FF awards” instead of directly referring to a NG member? I think I directly talked to you instead of indirect reference.
And I dont have anything against you …for god’s sake dont make it sound like “personal attack” – which is a fav term for some members here ((
))
I dont have anything against you I repeat.
Peace.

05:30:43 pm
Ok…here is MY last word..I dont care a shit about FF awards….but if you ask me there WAS a logic in what I said….and THAT WAS NOT PERSONAL ATTACK. It was a direct talk.
If it has touched some raw nerve Neelu, I am sorry. But I am sure you know what I mean and you also know that it was not personal attack

Ritz – no idea what you are saying. At this point I do not care either. Do you want me to get annoyed with said awards? Done. Or to praise them? Done. Or to say nothing and be indifferent? Whatever works for you.

Jodha Akbar bagging the major awards should not come as a surprise IMO.No matter what we personally think about Jodha Akbar, there is a perception amongst the critics and the audience that It was the best amongst the movies those were nominated. One can make a case for “Rock On” being a superior film than JA but the former is hardly a big movie to make any significant impact in all these popular award ceremonies.Having said that personally I did not mind JA(I liked the film to an extent) winning all those major awards, lot better than something like Ghajini or a Rab Ne winning.

I totally agree with Som. JA was the most deserving movie of the year and HR’s was certainly the best performance.
And I’m also happy to note that unlike previous years (i’m sure there have been a few exceptions here and there), we are actually seeing a hit movie from the earlier part of the year, winning in so many categories! Typically awards go to hit movies released in the latter part of the year (october onwards) regardless of their merits. It’s just a question of these movies and performances being on top of the viewer’s minds during the awards season.
In fact, I feel SRK would’ve ended up with far fewer FF awards if many of his hits had come out in Jan-April time frame.

“Typically awards go to hit movies released in the latter part of the year (october onwards) regardless of their merits.”
This might simply be a reflection of the release strategies – the bigger movies always release towards the end of the year. The earlier part of the year has distractions like exams and such.
