Summation of Delhi 6 opening report from 4 sources – BOI, Taran, IBOS & Komal
1) BOI :
Delhi 6 Opens Below The Mark
Delhi 6 opened below the mark. The film was slow in the morning at 35-40% but managed to hit collections of 75%+ in the evening at premium multiplexes in big cities. Single screens were dull. The overall all India opening day response is around 50-55%. The reports are mixed with the film being liked by some of the gentry audience. Delhi 6 has a near 1000 cinema release so weekend grosses should be decent if it can show normal improvement on Saturday and Sunday.
2) Taran Adarsh (Editor, trade magazine Trade Guide) :
‘Delhi 6′ decent at some plexes, dull at majority of screens
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s new release DELHI 6 opened to a 60% – 70% response at some multiplexes. The film was best at a handful of plexes in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. Even an ‘A’ class centre like Kolkata opened to a lukewarm response. At a majority of centres, the business was 25% – 30%. The single screens were even lower. This writer spoke to several distributors/exhibitors of various territories and the feedback is negative. The indications are, the business is expected to fall on Saturday.
The below-the-mark start of DELHI 6 will hit Abhishek Bachchan hard. After the financial setback of DRONA, which was a solo hero project, Abhishek had to prove his mettle with DELHI 6. But Abhishek hasn’t been accepted in the film, plus the business is on the lower side.
Delhi 6 takes the best opening of 2009
Delhi 6 has taken the best opening of 2009 so far. The film will put up strong first weekend numbers given the strong collections from the multiplexes and single screens in Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Baroda, Bangalore, Kanpur etc. Mumbai is relatively behind. On the other hand, overseas in America, the film has opened strongly across 89 screens as well.
The Abhishek Bachchan starrer had difficulty finding a proper release Friday due to revenue share dispute between the multiplexes and UTV. As such the Saturday opening collections are higher than Friday’s. Though it remains to be seen how Sunday and of course the critical Monday will head, as that will determine whether Delhi 6 goes on to be a big hit at the box office. But the early word of mouth on the film appears to be positive.
