Thanks Tango for moreorless clearing the air on the rights…
All in all Kites would do wonders at the BO…It has the chances of setting first week records considering its HRs only movie in all most two years and Diwali would have some additional Holidays (8 or 9 day)Like Ghajini…
Thanks Tango.
As promised yesterday, you have posted.
I am sure the base tag will not be less than 80%. I still think that this is a very high price tag. Nothing against Hrithik, but Kites to me looks risky if it is a copy of Match Point. A small change towards the end by copying the stunts of Bad Boys 2 will not help much. Diwali release surely will have its share of competition.
I can understand the ire of few who cannot see anything ill written about HR/SRK’s films, self, family, dogs, etc. but they should understand that there is a risk element attached with Kites. I know Hrithik is talend but may not be the case with juntaa who loves Hrithik in certain type of roles. They barely accepted him in JA thanks to the director and Aish and Hindu-muslim angle (done very elegantly and stylishly). I am not so hopeful with Kites.
Gabber,
The vox populi among HR fans is that his JA performance is his best till date and is heads and shoulders above his avatars in KNPH,KMG ,krrish or D2.
On the contrary,it is Akshay and his fans who exult in his lunatic films and refuse to see his solemn side as an actor(if it exists!)
100 Cr although seems to be at the higher side even to me but lets not get in to that..If we take these prices in to consideration then SIK was a flop …as most of the distributors lost money on it…
As far as risk is concerned it is invloved in any big movie…So whats the big fuss about??
Thanks for posting Tango. As I understand 100 crores is probably the worldwide rights for the Hindi and English version all inclusive. If the english version is then released in other markets in Europe and Latin America, the rights will go up buy x% (and that to me seems to be the open ended clause). Correct me if I am wrong.
Regarding the suppositions and dubious claims being made by the fans of another star, one can only but ask them to have patience until Kambaqth Ishq and Blue release. Then wait for Kites. I undertsand that people are losing their steam in sheer anxiety and Kites is indeed getting beneath their skin, but one just hopes that they confine themeselves to the range of predicting / hoping for good things for their favorite’s next few releases, because the hit that the distributors have taken with the last two to 3 failures is going to have a telling effect on the asking price of the forthcoming ventures of this star as will his mass popularity.
It is also noticeable that in all these frivolous attempts to degrade Hrithik, some of these Akshay/Abhishek fans have completely forgotten D6 which is around the corner. Guess this is a perfect example of misdirection of positive energies
yes Julie any one will be fool enough to say that 100cr i sfor india only and that also for distribution rights of movie only.
I personally think that music of kites itself will bring the good portion of this 100 cr back to BIG

Wonder why Akshay showed up for Starduust awards when he did not get Mr. Popularity or Mr. Best Actor. Guess he went on to pick Aneez bazmi’s award for Singh is King Guess he repented his decision to hand over Screen’s Mr. Popularity award to Aamir. The organizers and the audience had a good laugh at the end, cause the trophy had Singh is King engraved on it Mindblowing.
Again this is half the truth … for layman understanding let me make it simple – Roshans are in a deal where the money they will pocket will be directly proportional to the box-office collections of the movie … the agreement is a two fold one for overseas and domestic release.
If the movie flops, there is a gaurantee that Big Movies will be compensated for any loss … so its Filmkraft who will lose money.
If the movie works, the amount that Roshans will get what is estimated to be anything from 100 to 150 crores depending on the collections and music and video revenues.
The roshans have reported spent 50 crores on making this movie.
Also this is the second thriller for hrithik after his debut movie.
If this movie bites the dust at the box office ala CCTC or Tashan (the 2 big debacles from a star in recent times) then Roshans are bound to lose half of their investment on Kites.

rudresh- that is correct. The worldwide rights of 100 crores would include th english, hindi versions, sattelite and music all inclusive.

Completely agree here..

There is no clarity on the fixed base price. Usually it is 80% of the total selling price. This makes it 80Cr. Too high in my opinion.
