Well, anything to get the DON on board. And even Shah Rukh Khan wouldn’t settle for anything less. So, when Farhan got the opportunity to invite Shah Rukh Khan on his show Oye!! It’s Friday!!, he decided to make the most of it by holding him back for two episodes.

The first episode of the two-part series saw Shah Rukh Khan at his charming best. He caught up with Farhan as long time buddies… When Farhan quizzed him about his forthcoming film My Name Is Khan, SRK couldn’t refuse to divulge little bit of the plot. He said, “The film is about Khan’s journey (his wife calls him Khan) who goes about telling people ‘My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist…’ For the very first time both Karan (Johar) and I have tried to make something different. I hope people like it as much as my other films.”

Both Farhan and Shah Rukh instantly got into a playful zone. SRK shared many anecdotes about how and when he decided to buy his dream house Mannat, his still non-existent swimming pool, him being a gadget freak etc. Farhan Akhtar had an unusual gift for Shah Rukh. And guess what, it was a solar-powered torch! Further surprising is the fact that King Khan always wanted to own one and was indeed happy to lay his hands on it.

Shah Rukh came on the show with a sling wrapped around his left hand. When a curious Farhan asked him the reason, SRK was at his comical best, calling it a fashion accessory. If one would have thought the joke ended here, there was more to come as he confessed that it was shaking hands with Salman Khan that resulted in this bad state of his hand. SRK finally revealed the ‘real’ reason, something that made the audience burst into laughter.

There was some predictable mutual admiration also at work when Farhan asked Shah Rukh Khan to teach him dancing. SRK explained the signature pose from Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’s chartbuster Mitwa through three simple steps, which would make this ‘extraordinary feat’ possible – “Keep some good distance between the feet – one foot nine inches to be precise, bend a leg and then raise the hands.” As the music played, Shah Rukh began his gig only to explain later that this could be done with any kind of music, whether it is a number from Don…, Sholay or even the evergreen track Saathi Haath Badhaana…

Much to Farhan’s embarrassment, Shah Rukh spilt the beans on how Farhan lost soccer matches opposite him, Boman Irani and Priyanka Chopra during the shooting of Don. Taking the joke further, SRK invited Farhan for lessons at his soccer-training centre at Mannat.

There were also a few nostalgic romantic moments when the celebrity host revealed tidbits on the growing up years of Hrithik and Shah Rukh. Farhan mentioned Hrithik meeting his wife Suzanne when he was 12, Shah Rukh was quick to add that he was not as smart as Hrithik and that he met wife Gauri only when he was 18. Shah Rukh was too shy to ask Gauri to dance with him and asked a friend to take up his case. However, his hopes came crashing when Gauri lied to him that she was waiting for her boyfriend. However, it turned out that there was no boyfriend and it was her brother she was referring to. Shah Rukh Khan joked that how till date he and Gauri have had a brotherly-sisterly relationship.

The SRK- Part 1 episode definitely left the audience asking for more…

Farhan is a dull sort of host and those dancing babes in skimpy clothes do nothing for me. The skits are stupid mostly. So the show is good if he gets an interesting guest – otherwise the show is lack lustre.

    Agree Neelu,

Infact when i saw te first episode with HR,i was bored to death…This has everything to with HRs boring personality offscreen as well as Farhans dull hosting…Not a single guest lighten up the show not even Aamir…

Hope Farhan would have invited Abhishek..Because i believe barring SRK he is the only one who is really fun offscreen…

    Raj,

I think the first episode was quite enjoyable and the show as a whole is quite entertaining.Farhan and HR share a very good equation which was quite evident on screen.

SRK on the other hand can create “fun” but only at the expense of others (like his comrades sajid khan, saif et al) which has also resulted in srk finding himself at the receiving end more often than not .
If at all one takes a dig at srk in return,he gets offensive. It is said that ” If u have a weak defense ,u go for the offensive ” and srk has proved that on many occasions.
May u find it “entertaining” but certainly not me.
