in the last line, she says “Somewhere in the tamasha, Akshay confesses he doesn’t care if he was Liu Sheng or a macchar (mosquito) in his last birth. Frankly, my dear, even we wouldn’t give a damn! Maybe Drona would”

Get ready to hear the ‘I don’t make movies for critics’ comment from men behind this movie. Looks like the critics are going after this one hard!!!!!

i repeat what i’ve said few times earlier that now akki must come out these mindless masal-fares, masala-fares can be made in a grippint way too- he needs to do those kind….i’d like to see akki doing a spy kinda film – serious stuff with loads of real action…that agent vinod shud have been made with akki rather than saif….

The critics are giving the film the Saawariya treatment…which is coming off as too harsh as usual. LS2050 got the same treatment.

Jay, saawariya and LS2050 met with a similar fate though saawariya was 35cr+ i guess…..CCTC might collect 30-40 cr in this 3 days but then i think it’s gonna an uphill task…what a wastage of money by warner bros. and all involved with CCTC…..with this kind of money they could sponser 10 promising movies like A WEDNESDAY….

Ideaunique: The problem with CCTC (much like Tashan) apparently is that it precisely isn’t like Akshay’s regular fare. In his usual comedies he’s still untouchable in box office terms.

I trust Qalandar’s judgment completely in these matters. And he was onto this problem right away. Spoofs are simply not accepted in Hindi cinema. But it is also true that Bollywood makes it worse by making ‘half-spoofs’ which is neither here not there.

i agree satyam, however i see akki going govinda way unless he changes the overdone-comedy-lane quickly…and then it will like a point of no return – that is people will get so bored of him that even if he tries a different genre…no one will go to watch’em….much like what happened with Govinda….and akki is already on the wrong side of 40s….hope he doesn’t go ahead with those “patiala house” and “CCTA(frica)” kinda stuff any more….

The Govinda comparison is not entirely valid though.. I don’t know how long Akshay can keep this up but he’s the kind of huge huge star at the moment that Govinda never was despite all the Dhawan success in the 90s.. I think Akshay can deliver grossers as big as anyone else with this genre which was generally not true for Govinda.. leaving this aside he has generated real hysteria and so on here.. having multiple hits in a year is actually a first (allowing for all the differences in magnitude) since Bachchan. I mean more than two.

It’s just been a spectacular run for him. The only failure was Tashan. CCTC looks to be another one but I think there are extenuating circumstances in either case. His Kambakht Ishq or De Dhana Dan still look to be blockbusters and both release this year!

Yes, eventually he will have a problem. Age will become an issue and so far he hasn’t been able to diversify. But at the moment he really is supreme.

I myself nominate Aamir all the time as the top star or at least co-equal with Akshay but in an industry the guy will the multiple hits will beat the guy with one just about every time as a matter of perception. The only reason I still have Aamir on top is because his ‘perception’ is never dependent on these conventional parameters. So what hurts other stars doesn’t hurt him as much. But still Akshay can hardly be denied in any sense.

By the IBOS in their latest report are predicting 115-125 crores for Ghajini.

Meanwhile they have RNBDJ at 69 crores so far with just 4 crores this past week. So by their math the film is not even going to double its initial. Wonder if there’s something to this. The media has never been too big on the film which would explain it.

The other explanation could be Bombay where it opened only 60 lakhs or so higher than Dostana and of course faded faster than in other major metros. The media is quite Bombay centric. Then again Bombay’s such a huge share of the pie.

I have myself called the film a superhit but the media reaction even accounting for the Ghajini wave and so forth is rather puzzling.

That is because in the second week IBOS gave Rab Ne Ban Di Jodi just 18 crores when it was 16.60 crores from just 380 prints.

They give it just 1.60 crores from the remaining prints as. It is as atrocious as it can be.
