Utkal, lets see who have chosen Ghajini: Kunal Kohli (Fanaa, TPTM, Hum Tum), Soham Shah (Kaal, LOL), Ken Ghosh (Fida?). I dont think these directors are anything but great. In any case3, RNBDJ is also chosen by Siddharth Anand, which is expected.
You should have seen first who had chosen your “Prestige” film. These directors have never made any “Prestige” film in their life, and you think that them chosing Ghajini gives it some prestige? LOL

IMO, Jodha Akbar should have featured more frequently there. Agree with the TOP 5 there as you have listed, those are pretty much the Prestige films we have had last year.

Many of these choices are driven by internal politics and personal equations, so can’t take them seriously. I haven’t seen Mithya and I believe it’s the best film of the year. I liked Bachna Ae Haseeno and Jodhaa Akbar quite a bit. The rest was blah.
Kunal Kohli’s bias towards Aamir is obvious. He not only rates Ghajini as his top fav, he rates Jaane Tu.. as well! But I do notice that Jaane Tu..is on many a director’s list, so that is more credible and creditable.

I am not denying that there is internal politics in these choices. But in a represntative sample of 18 they should even out. All the diectors may not be all grreat, but like the voting members of IMPPA they are reasonably succesful directors. And my final point, is at least it is more prestigious that Rab Ne Bna Di Jodi, which ahs got one vote , that of Siddhrah Anand, whose only other choice is BAH, another YRF film. At least Ken Ghosh has nothing to do with Amir, and his only choice is Ghajini.

Anyone relying on Kunal Kohli picks as a mark of quality is laughable to me! The guy is a hack of the worst order and an idiot to boot. The list is partisan to say the least – Gulzaar Saab picking Yuvraaj made me lose a bit of respect. Do we know what the future associations of these people are? At one time Anurag Kashyap (an avowed hater of Yash Raj films) began to praise Kabul Express and John Abraham – then we found out JA was to act in No Smoking.

Inspite of it being clear that soime of this list is driven by personal equations, I’m stunned how Rab Ne – an SRK starrer got one vote – that too from a Yash Raj director Siddharth Anand. This to me is more telling than anything else.

Manoj – ROM is playing it safe as he has nothing at stake this year. The true “power” person is Farhan Akhtar. How on earth Rock on! can get 10 votes is beyond to me.

Rock On, A Wednesday and JTYJN were the most liked films across the board, no doubt about it. Ja comes next. Out of all these Rock On is most admired among filmmakers because they can empthise with the theme, and it is a difficult film to pull off. It has got nothing to do with Frahan’s ‘power’.

The only thing I can think of for these directors to empathize with in Rock on! is that they would rather be successful investment bankers than hack directors! Just my opinion.

Nice to see the love for Oye Lucky Lucky Oye. It is the smartest, funniest and most authentic film of the year.
