(lol, I posted this in another link and Aarohi said “Idea: Make your review a separate post man!” so…..rks feel free to delete this repeat post
My review and rating for Ghajini….. (few lines added in earlier review)
Place: Pondicherry
Theater: Adlabs
Show Time: 6.45 pm
I reached there at 5.45 pm hoping that only handful people would turn up (as I don’t remember when was the last time a Hindi movie released here) – when I reach there..there was a board – HOUSEFULL!!! I was speechless for a while…the late night show was also full….after 5 min. as if a miracle the ticket-window-guy (one of those guys) called me in a side and handed over a ticket to me quietly…miracle? u bet…
alright after having a plain Dosa and a cup of tea – I enter the cinema-hall….movie starts on time…titles roll…and I’m transported in an altogether another world….the moment Aamir enters…there were whistles, claps, cheering….i’ve seen this only once earlier while watching Rajni’s Chandramukhi…but remember we are in Pondy….3 hrs. passed by – i guess no one realized that…what a movie
Performances:
Aamir – very few dialogues and very intense expressions – one of his finest performances…the man is hungry for doing things which he has not done earlier and comes out a winner always after doing so…
Asin – very very pure emotions this girl carry in her – I read somewhere “when it comes to love – women are next to god – be it a mother, a friend, a wife, a lover, a sister….” while watching Asin enacting her role – i remembered this sentence more than once – if one gets a girl like that in real life – who wants those things like money and material success and ……? Aamir-Asin’s romantic-track was the soul of the movie – what a tender and intense love-story..she oozes so much confidence and spontainty….she is a lambi race ki ghodi for sure…
Jiah: she was ok
Pradeep Rawat: good, could’ve been better at places.
Direction: Murugadoss is a winner here – if one can keep the viewers glued to their seats for 3 hours – what else can u say? a powerful story-teller and wrote a very tight screenplay.
ARR’s music: 5/5, althought wanted to see LATOO song without it getting butchered..
RaviChandran: Cinematography was superb – infused extra life in all the scenes.
action was quite sleek and really enjoyed dhisum dhisum and those metal-rod-mind-numbing-blows….though it was gory but it took the extreme point which was good as the intense love story reached the peak too….so the most tender feelings were followed by the most brutal violence…did someone write that the violence was depicted poetically? that’s the case here…
Any negatives? Yes, in certain close-ups – Aamir’s age is showing….but that is not a big deal with audience i guess..anything else? not really…..it was a sumptuous feast and nit-picking is little out of place here. And I didn’t go to find loopholes in the plot (there are quite a few…but who cares? as long as the entertainment quotient was high…make it very high!
)
VERDICT: 4.9 / 5
(this is not a classic cinema but it was promoted as a mass-entertainer-action-thriller and lives up to that – i won’t be surprized if all the BO records are broken soon by Ghajini)

Yes….the movie should deliver as far as entertainment is concrned…And Ghjini seems to be doing that at this moment..
But shouldnt that apply to RNBDJ also..it promised nothing either..was not promoted well either and at this mommnnet trending very well…

Apparently when Aamir does a brainless action flick it is deserving of high praise, but when others make entertaining flicks (like OSO, SIK, Rab ne) they are downgraded. That rule book has not been made public on this procedure yet.

It is nota brainless action flick. Most reviewers, including the ones who have caled it ‘dumb’ ‘ paisa vasool’, etc, have high praise for the sweet, romatic elements in the film/.
Example: ( Rajeev Masand):
‘writer-director AR Murgadoss throws in an engaging back-story in the form of leading lady Asin (playing smalltime model Kalpana) and a love story brimming with originality and the kind of gentleness that you don’t see at the movies anymore. It’s a romance that takes you by surprise, and to an extent puts the film’s intense action into perspective too.”
Hardly a mindless action fim, right?
An average critics’ rating of nearly 3.5 tells its own story, considering that the best like Zp, or CDi, or Rock On ahve perhaps an average rating of less than 4. ( Can anyone condirm this or otherwise please for me?)

Critics talked of fine acting and memorable moments there too. I am talking of NG perceptions and reactions!

Neelu, actually I had liked OSO very much too and I would give somewhat similar rating to it…..reg. SIK and RNB – I can’t comment because I haven’t seen either of them….talking abt. entertaining movies….i remember watching Dil To Pagal Hai 6 times eventhough i m not an srk fan!!! the movie was damn good and srk’s performance was electrifying there + lovely songs + great performances by the other actors…. so at the end of the day, for me – any good movie which has a very high entertainment quotient will get high ratings…regardless of which actor stars in it….you might be surprized to know that out of my 10 favorite songs, one is “Woh to hai albela…” from SRK’s “Kabhi haan kabhi naa”….:-)

Kunal, I very much read the title of Masand’s review. I think you did not read my post. My post says ‘ Even those who aclled it ‘ dumb’…” As I said earlier dont just read the headline, read the text and fine print too. And dont forget, he gave it 3 stars vs 2 stars for RNBDJ.
Ans Neelu, I am not saying no nice things were said about RNBDJ, but overall Ghajini have been rated higher than RNBDJ by critics.
