This is a nice bit of news. I thought they did a superb job on the Black Friday front. The BGM was moody, atmospheric and disorienting in a way that complimented and even supported Kashyap’s fragmented, disorienting narrative. And I really love “Bandeh”.
Indian Ocean is a mighty good choice IMO. THey indeed did do a great job with BLACK FRIDAY. Overall they are quite a padha-likha group producing decent, sensitive music….personally for me along the lines of PINK FLOYD philosophically not musically of course.
I don’t know that a CD was ever released. I just recall the guitar BGM that recurred throughout, and of course “Bandeh” which plays hauntingly over the credits after we get that last eerie close-up of Pawan Malhotra’s eyes.
Your gravatar: is that Lal in Iruvar, watching Ash 2? LOL, that shot frozen almost seems like Lal is being canonizd (come to think of it, that probably wouldn’t be a bad idea when the time came)…
Joking aside, I’m certain Ratnam meant to do precisely this with Anandan’s character…at the apex of that character’s career as a star – when he’s literally leaning back to pick out his next heroine in a personal theater, he gets the knockout punch of his life. The visual is also a superb cue of an impending revelation – like a light bulb turning on in the recesses of his mind.
Black Friday CD did release (On Times Music IIRC), at least in India. It featured BGM pieces from the movie in addition to the songs including ‘Bandeh’ and ‘Bharam’.

Yes, Black friday had an excellent soundtrack — is it available anywhere on CD? I can’t find it at the desi stores here in NYC…
