The much-anticipated Dostana - starring Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, Priyanka Chopra, Bobby Deol and Shilpa Shetty - opened today to a positive response from critics. The film marks whiz-kid Karan Johar’s first production since Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (B+) in 2006. The film is currently at a ‘B-’ with a 58% (click here to see how we determine a film’s grade) from 20 reviews. Of those 20 reviews, 13 have been positive, 1 average and the remaining 6 have been negative. We should have many more reviews for the film added over the weekend.

For the film’s lead male pair, the response comes as a sigh of relief as both of their last film’s didn’t click with audiences. Abhishek’s last release - Drona - scored a disappointing ‘D’ while Abrahaham’s last release - Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal - scored a ‘D+’. On the flipside, the grade is not near the ‘B+’ that Priyanka Chopra’s last film - Fashion - scored. For all news and reviews for Dostana, click here.

Also releasing today was Dasvidaniya with a respectable ‘C+’ from critics. The low budget film has 11 reviews counted for it’s grade at press time with 7 reviews being positive, 2 average and the remaining 2 being negative. As with Dostana, there will be many more reviews added for the film over the weekend which may affect it’s grade, so be sure to keep checking this space. 1. My whole family saw DOSTANA Last night and the feedback has been this is a funny film which will sail through. Abhishek is the backbone of the film, and after YUVA and GURU this is one of his finest performances. Cool, smooth, confident and funny the man is in form here after DRONA. I’ve always said, like his father, Abhishek excels at comedy in the right role, and DOSTANA brings that to the fore. I wish Dhawan would sign Abhishek for a outright comedy!
