He will be good here too and is surprise packet apart from Asin’s charming presence which is going to come as a surprise and shock to many fans of Hindi film heroines. An older comment of mine on the whole memento/gajini deal:
“I don’t recall saying that Gajini was in any sense ‘better’ than OSO. I was referring to Gajini as a mass product, nothing more. But since you’ve brought it up I expect it to be a much more meaningful film than OSO. Why? Because the original Tamil even though an ‘actioner’ and otherwise masala borrows a very interesting idea from Memento and does it one better in this sense. In Memento the clues are written on pieces or paper or these are photographs and so on. In Gajini it is the body of the protagonist that is inscribed with these clues. For all sorts of theoretical reasons I find this a very interesting idea. Incidentally I am not much of a fan of the Tamil but I expect the remake to be better for a number of reasons.”

I think it’s a bit disingenuous to keep rapping Gajini for not being Memento! The idea of Memento was borrowed for a commercial potboiler in Tamil with the ‘body’ being given even greater prominence (I find this interesting for all sorts of theoretical reasons, I am less interested in what ’seems’ plausible). This does not make the film more intelligent than Memento or anything of the sort. The director is not attempting to do that!
On the Ewan McGregor example (Pillow Book) well that’s Peter Greenaway, again a ’serious’ director. Of course some had plausibility issues even here.
I find the further ‘radicalization’ of the Memento idea (not just tattoos but clues scribbled on the body) interesting in Gajini. This does not make the latter a competitor to the former by any means! I am actually not a fan of either film. I expect Aamir to better the latter though. On the former I have always found this film terribly overrated. I infinitely prefer the same director’s Prestige.
