Don’t tell me when to go: Sachin

Mohali:
Milestone man Sachin Tendulkar today asserted that he would play as long as he enjoys his game and nobody should dare tell him when to stop.
Basking in his new-found glory as the highest Test run getter after breaking Brian Lara’s record of 11,953 runs, the batting great said he does not have anything to prove to anyone and nobody should tell him when to call it quits.
“I don’t need to prove anything to anyone. I have been around for 19 years and all those 19 years I did not play to prove anything to anyone, not in my first year not in the 10th, 15th or 19th year,” a combative Tendulkar told a press conference after the opening day’s play against Australia.
“What I need to do is to contribute to whatever my team’s requirements are. I’m not here to answer what x,y, and z is writing about me or saying about me. People will say lot of things, not necessarily they are always correct. I don’t take thir opinions seriously,” he said.
“What happens in the dressing room is more imporant. The planning of the captain, coach, manager and other players are much more important. I just focus on that,” he said.
Tendulkar made it clear that though the clamour is growing for the retirement of the senior players in the side, he was in no mood to hang up his boots.
“I’m going to continue obviously, I’m feeling good. As I said, so many things are being said and written and not necessarily those are right. Those are only opinions,” he said.

‘Stones are thrown at you, turn them into milestones’..Arun,Remarkable thought..coming from Sachin is quite surprising though. On second thoughts I guess one doesnt get to achieve what he has by being pedestrian in ones thinking. The grit , determination and steadfastness he has displayed on and off the field stems from this bent of mind. Bravo!

Good stuff , Lil master.
That piece of shit from Yorkshire opened his gab today to talk about Sachin. What a wanker! Never liked Boycott. Now even less.

LOL ILG. Great day for India. Ganguly got a well deserved century (another slap on the face to critics) and one wonders if these guys played under less pressure put on them, what they would achieve. Hope India don’t blow it from here on in.

once again the man do it first a match saving 49 in first test and brilliant 88 when india where 160 odd for 4 and along with saurav was instrumental in putting india into top don’t think this guy is going anywhere for next 2 -3years best on his current form

India have blown Australia away in this test match so far. Now 4 and a half sessions to take 10 wickets, though this seems a stellar batting strip still. I’m hoping Hayden gets nailled quickly again!

Whatever Sachin says and whatever record he breaks now, the fact remains that he never really regained any lost ground once he reached his peak. He never won a match for India on his own after that brilliant series with Australia more than a decade ago.
Doesn’t make him any lesser as a cricketer but I don’t think his career – after a decade long slump – is as luminous as that of someone like Steve Waugh – who literally won the World Cup for Australia on his own.

Steve Waugh didn’t win the WC on his own. He got his team to the final with the match in the groups against SA (the whole dropping the cup comment and all). Shane Warne is the one who bowled Pakistan to pieces in the final by taking 4 wickets and man of match after bowling them out for 130 odd.

Sachin just took a blinder to dismiss Katich. Bhajji takes 2 wickets in his first over, after a rousing start by Australia. What a match this is turning out to be!

3 down, Aussies are crumbling after a great start! That Hayden forgot this is a test match, not 20-20!
sandy – if India bowled like (today and this test match) this in the period 98-08, the value of the batting exploits of not only Tendulkar, but also Dravid, Ganguly & Laxman would have been far more noticeable. The fact is, in this period they haven’t had one fast bowler of the calibre of Ambrose, Walsh, Lee, McGrath, Donald, Akhtar, Akram or Younis. Not one. To win matches is not only a batsmen doing his job. The bowling attack in test matches has to take 20 wickets period.
4 down now. 52-4, top 4 out, can India clean them up today?????

That is Australia against India, without the umpires and home ground.

What a victory! Zaheer came up three rippers to finish off the lower order. India have thoroughly outplayed Australia. Glad that almost everyone in the team played a part in the victory.

Yup Arun…this was Australia’s second defeat in over 3 years in Tests. Only India have beaten them in this period, which shows 1) Australia’s dominance 2) India’s ability to be the only convincing challenger.
It was great to see Australia hit the “self-destruct” button for once! And they are struggling at the moment because they lack the Big E – Experience. Not one of their bowlers had toured India before I read somewhere, though I thought Lee had played test cricket in India. There lines are all wrong…I’m sure if Australia had India’s media, Hayden would be given a walking stick and Ponting’s captaincy would be on the line if this continues! Thankfully, they are a more reasonable bunch!

Few things here. I think india is perhaps the strongest test team now along with sa.
Australia, is a shadow of its old self. It reminds me of the allan border team a couple of decades ago. This team has no bowlers – they need some stars. As to jay’s point about age – I do believe they should ease out hayden and haddin and get some new blood like marsh etc. I also think ponting is like dravid and sachin now. He probably will play decently well but he is pretty much past his prime.
Btw – what happens to kumble now. This is like his perfect storm now. Bhajji, mishra and dhoni played well. I hope dhoni has the class to let kumble finish this series as captain and kumble shows the class to give up the captaincy at the end of this series.

“I hope dhoni has the class to let kumble finish this series as captain and kumble shows the class to give up the captaincy at the end of this series.”
I think main burden is with selectors.

Hayden is going to be kicked out after this series unless he hits a biggie .. Aussie selectors are usually merciless after a series draw or defeat.
Kumble and Laxman should retire at the end of this series … else kicked out too.
