Beats me why the Robot stills are causing quite so much hilarity. I guess many people need something to feel superior to. Perhaps one shouldn’t snatch this fragile support from them. But I’m puzzled. Songs are licenses for the imaginations to run riot, this has been a strong strain in Indian cinema from its inception. I certainly observe that there is now a new embarrassment abroad regarding this legacy, an embarrassment that seems unaware of the brilliant excesses of Busby Berkeley, of Bob Fosse, and may other Hollywood directors and choreographers. All this aside, what we see Rajini and Ash doing is not that different from what Kamal and Manisha were doing in Australia in Shankar’s Indian. Moreover, as far as I know the designer here is none other than Manish Malhotra, so its not a straightforward case of North-vs-South.
I disagree with TheSkeptic’s comment. Everyone can view the image according to their own biases. It is just that their plane of thoughts are different even though they may view the pictures with inferiority. But who doesn’t, when their thoughts don’t match?
Just on aside: Seems like Ash gets a lot of films with Rahman’s music. She has done Guru, JA, & Provoked and in the next bit she has Robot, Mani’s next and Rajeev Menon’s Dhun as well. And she may be singing for Rahman if this is true at all:
What? I cannot find some silly stills funny? Those are side splitting - I thought ladies dressing as ostriches and roosters went out after Jewel Thief and Baithe Hain Kya Uska Paas!

I like the wacky look Ash has here. I think we can expect another fun soundtrack here from Rahman!
