All’s not well on the sets on Rakesh Roshan’s Kites in New Mexico. The producer upset cinematographer Bobby Singh so much that the he stormed out of the under-production film.
Kites, being directed by Anurag Basu stars Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori. It was the director who brought the cinematographer on board. They’d worked together in the past in Metro, Woh Lamhe and Gangster. And Roshan agreed to have him on board after seeing his work.
Undermined
According to a reliable source, “Bobby and Anurag are friends, besides being a great team. Basu appreciates Bobby’s work and gives him a free hand. But Roshan had his own ideas of how the film should look. He didn’t agree with Bobby’s style and would interfere in camera angles and light shots etc.
Initially Bobby kept quiet as Rakesh is a senior filmmaker and creative differences happen on every set. But as the days went by, Bobby felt his work as a cinematographer was increasingly getting undermined.”
I’m going home
The differences between Bobby and Roshan was affecting everyone on the set. Things finally came to a head on the day when Roshan Sr shouted at Bobby in front of the whole cast ad crew. The source says, “Bobby was fixing his camera for a particular shot when Rakesh came up to him and started firing him loudly.
Rakesh had apparently told Bobby to do the shot from another angle but Bobby wanted to try a different angle. Rakesh was furious as Bobby had disregarded his instructions, and made his displeasure clear in front of the entire unit. Bobby felt so humiliated about this dressing down that he stormed off the sets and took a flight straight back to Mumbai!”
When contacted Bobby doesn’t deny the story but says, “Yes I am no more a part of Kites but I don’t want to talk about it.”

Looks like Kites will be quite the compromised effort from Anurag Basu if Rakesh Roshan has his way. First they take on the non-talented Rajesh Roshan for music instead of going with Basu’s favorite Prittam. And now the cinematographer walks out on them!

first of all,Rakesh Roshan knows what is the best for his film more than anyone else.
Jesse,
calling RR non-talented and comparing him to the King of copy-cat(pritam) is a big joke in itself.Pritam till now is no where close to RR’s fab music in Julie,Mr natwarlal,Khatta-meetha or KNPH(all original albums)and there r many such egs. and i m sure he will do a KNPH this time in kites.

I am not a fan of Rajesh Roshan or Pritam, but like Pritam RR has lifted songs too. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan told this story of how Rajesh Roshan lifted this song of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, at Rishi Kapoor’s wedding NFAK sang a qawwali and exactly after 10 years at a party hosted by Rishi everyone including RR, Rakesh, NFAK were present. Rishi asked NFAK to sing that qawwali and later confronted RR and Rakesh Roshan of their act and then these guys went and apologized to the great NFAK.
So the comparison of Pritam and RR isnt really unfair imho, manoj, insaan 10 bar chori kar keh ameer ho gaye ya saari zindagi chori kar kar keh paisa banata rahay, woh paisa hamesha haram ka hi rehta hay.
I know the example is silly!

Johnny,
agree both have lifted tunes in the past but Pritam is yet to give Master albums like RR has given the past. They cannot be compared.also a point to be noted is that pritam has ONLY been lifting tunes in his entire career so far.

Rajesh Roshan has given some amazing music (Dil Kya Kare from Julie is probably my all time favorite love song), and Pritam has nothing even remotely comparable to the best of Rajesh’s ’70s music. However, it is also true that for a few decades now Rajesh Roshan has been giving utterly tired music IMO. Krrish was boring. Kaho Na Pyar Hai better but quite generic. My favorite Rajesh Roshan song in perhaps the last 20-25 years is “Soone Shaam Sawere” from Khel, divinely sung by Amit Kumar.

I liked Rajesh Roshan’s music from the old is gold days, including songs from Julie (except MY HURT IZ BEATING). But these days he has not created one hummable number. Pritam is a copycat and a hack but his numbers catch on fast and some of them are quite good IMO. But I hope someone slaps a huge lawsuit on his big fat ass one day so he stops the plagiarizing.

On the basis of Rajesh Roshan not having done anything worth mentioning over the past few years, I would hands down pick Prittam over him. Plus both have lifted tunes, so I don’t think one is holier than the other. The only difference is that when Prittam lifts a Ya Ali he makes it sound cool, while RR comes up with a lame Krazzy 4 that can’t even be saved by a Hrithik or a SRK! As for RR having all these great songs in the past, well I don’t know about you but I would rather cast Boman Irani over a Dev Anand anyday no matter how match of the latter’s past record may be better!

jesse,
Krazzy 4 title track (and even the other item song) was a bigger hit than the lame songs of SIK(pritam) and KK(pritam).and why do u want to break RR-RR pair?they have given some big hits together in the past.
