This leaves Gajini as the only release on Christmas.

If Ghajini is the only solo film on 26th Dec and it gets another three weeks (presuming CCTC comes after mid-jan), this film is going to shatter every record in the book.

rnbdj should be postponed or a clash should take place.

Obviously, I don’t think any two big films should clash as that is nothing but a futile ego-flexing exercise which benefits no one. However, I will say this, Rab Ne… finds itself in the same position that Ghajini was before new dates were announced. At that point Rab Ne was supposed to come two weeks after Ghajini -that I always felt was a risky proposition for the latter as any new release (and here we’re talking of two of the biggest films of the year) severly affects the first one.
Here, the film that releases first would have to be extraordinary to sustain the onslaught of another biggie.

One more thing. YRF has always stuck to its release dates but I do believe this is a situation where Aditya Chopra might just consider the option of a postponement. Rab Ne…looks out-of the-box and may need time to grow on the audiences. Also a headlong collision with a masala biggie may not be what Aditya wants. Having said that, there’s no hard and fast rule. TZP and Welcome happily co-existed!

And I say ‘headlong collision’ because even a two week margin -even though it is a definite space—is not really enough. Again, Ghajini could feel the tremors if Rab Ne proves to be in the league of a CDI.

Me too Tango.
But am happy for Ghajini. Now it has absolutely no reason to underperform, in other words, all the reasons to shatter BO records.

Also, here I will say that Akshay Kumar has behaved totally in character. He is hardly the sort to mindlessly go in for a clash with another biggie if he can help it. He didn’t want Welcome to clash with TZP either. People as competitive as Aamir or Akshay are fiercely protective of their own interests, rather than a show of power. Bravado is not a trait they are known for.

Good the clash has been avoided.I think CCTC might get a release either on 9th Jan or will be pushed to Republic Day.

Yes, Republic day is a good choice, since it can benefit from the holiday. But will the makers of CCTC wait that long? Also, there’s Dilli 6 – but here, I sincerely feel both films are as varied as cheese and chalk and are unlikely to pose a problem for each other.

I am thoroughly disappointed. I wanted the two to relesae together.

Yeah, in a way you have a point.

D6 was supposed to be on Republic Day. Then there were some stories of a delay. A Feb date was suggested. Not sure what the deal here is. But again I don’t believe an Akshay film will clash with an Abhishek film. At least I’d be very surprised if it happened.
On Sandy’s point about Akshay/Aamir it is indeed true that neither one likes clashes. It just isn’t good business policy for anyone and it certainly keeps their distributors happy! But it’s suddenly become a leaner year for Akshay than it looked to be. He had just two releases.

Yes the door has been opened for SRK and Aamir to take the year’s honours now! But then next year will probably have like a zillion Akshay releases to compensate!
