Akshay Kumar is King in Bollywood With his latest success Singh is Kinng, Akshay Kumar has jumped into a pay bracket of Rs 70 crore.
Apparently, UTV has signed him for their next project for Rs 70 crores. This puts him above the Khans and Hrithik Roshan.
For over a decade the Khans were ruling the roost in Bollywood. They were the first to break into the crore bracket. Hrithik Roshan joined them after his debut in 2000.
Now Akshay Kumar who has repackaged himself according to the times has skipped ahead of these kings of Bollywood.
“I can’t go into figures, but yes, I can say that we have signed Akshay Kumar for a film that will go on floors in the second half of 2009,” says Founder UTV Rampage, Ram Mirchandani.
His last release Singh is Kinng has earned a record Rs 90 crore over the first week and is set to cross Om Shanti Om’s highest collection of Rs 167crore in worldwide ticket sales.
Bollywood is seeing bigger revenues from the domestic market as well as overseas market. This makes the fat pay cheques of actors like Akshay Kumar worthwhile.

Hi Achilles bhai, very few appearances.
I still believe with a tailormade project(highlighting Hrithik’s strong points), Hrithik is still bigger, both in india and Oversaes.
But yes, the gap has narrowed.

Hello Tango bhai … yes my appearances are getting rare like hrithik … LOL
Hrithik in his element may be bigger than Akki, but Akki in the last 2-3 years have given more number of Hits than Hrithik in his whole career.
Btw, any news on Billo Barber?

Thats bcoz akki debuted in 1991(saugandh;10 years before HR made his debut in 2000)

70 cr so what is the budget? 150 cr
media is great so is its various package ( nothing more than pr stuff) even in sik where akki was the producer for the first time and got 1/3 of the profit he will not make even 50 cr
don’t think any of the stars get get more than 20 cr its strongly against the film economics

Hrithik is intelligently getting selective to compensate for his wrong choices post KNPH and you can see the results KMG onwards.
I think 2 releases a year he must have. One in two years is too small a number.
If hrithik wants he can get tailormade projects under his banner or for the corportaes. Its his choice to keep way.
Billoo Barber will be around Diwali.
