Audiance is the King and Boxoffice the Prophet, what they say needs to be and will be accepted – Success or otherwise.

With all eyes on Bollywood, and a whole slew of movies due for release, Bollywood Hungama took up the challenge to chart what are likely to be the biggest blockbusters of 2008. The analysis took the form of an extensive survey (from 18th to 26th July) conducted online amongst those who really matter – the consumers. Spanning regions as diverse as India and South-East Asia to the European Union and USA-Canada, the user had to select his/her 5 most anticipated movies. To ensure complete transparency and accuracy, a three level authentication check with email validation, cookie check and IP mapping was put into place.

The hot list of the Most Awaited Movies of 2008* truly proved to be the voice of the masses, garnering an overwhelming response. A 9-day survey, conducted between 18th July to 26th July, the poll saw 17,11,254 valid responses. Results were compiled based on votes from 67 countries – countries which constitute about 98% of revenue towards Bollywood releases.

The poll threw up several interesting results generating quite a buzz in the industry.

Demographics Some Facts
India: 47.40%

UK: 13.39%
Rest of the world: 11.96%
1. For the first time in the last four years, a movie from Yash Raj Films has failed to make it to the no.1 rank.
2. The movie which has grabbed the no.1 spot is Ghajini. It is no.1 across all the regions except UK. Of late, the brand Aamir Khan is synonymous with quality and this reflects in the numero uno position.

3. Akshay Kumar, SRK and Salman Khan have two movies each in global Top 10. Similarly Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra have two movies each in the global Top 10.

* Bollywood Hungama (earlier www.indiafm.com) has been conducting polls annually to determine the movies which are awaited the most or have a high level of public awareness and interest. The survey does not reflect or tend to predict the performance of the movie at the box office

Don’t think this is scientific in any way but the result that stands out is biloo barber at no 4. Irfan khan has a good fan following!

Agree Beld, surprised to find BB at no 4 ahead of films like CCTC and Drona.Again I have to say fans play a big role in these polls.the more the fans of a certain star vote, the better will be the position of his films and vice versa.

1.7MM is a lot of votes, but it was always going to be Ghajini & RNBJ – these two SRK & Aamir are top 2. It also helps both having one major release in the year (BB I understand isn’t SRK solo or anything like that) because there is no split votes by fans…which probably happened with Akshay most as he has two huge movies…

Jay:You can vote multiple times with different email IDS,so as Beld said It might not be scientifically 100% correct.BB ahead of films like CCTC and DRONA say a lot. Myself voted for Ghajni, followed by RNBDJ,CCTC,Drona and SIK.

One can argue about many of the rankings here. Certainly the initials for many of these films won’t be in that order! But Gajini beating RNBDJ in any context is significant. Specially since (and on a hunch!) I doubt there are as many multiple posters for Aamir’s films as there are for SRK’s!

A better way of posting Articles

If you copy paste in html mode, It would never show the problem. But HTML mode removes all the pictures if you paste directly That is when you have Image+Tett (Text +Table) why paste text selectively in HTML mode. Then copy selective images in visual mode.

whwn did this vote happen…surprised that i missed on bollywood humgama…(not that i would have voted) ;)
But if i had, my chpoive would have been almost the same.

Instead, I would have replaced Billo Barber with Chandni Chowk.
I think even on NG the average top 5 will be:

    1.Ghajini
    2. RNBDJ
    3. SIK
    4. CCTC
    5. Yuvraj [Wanted, if this poll is for this year as Yuvraaj is releasing next year.]

Billoo Barber will be there but not in top 5 definitely (Unless most of SRK fans take it as a challange and vote for it with no intention of watching it till a positive review comes, as they have done there in this voting.)

Well, before one gets ecstatic about Ghajini pipping Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi ( we will evaluate that once the two release and the actual picture emereges) what must also be kept in mind is that the same list has a Billoo Barbar ( taht is carrying fond hopes for many SRK dtractors) at no. 4 and Drona and Dilli 6 at 8 & 9 :-)

I have no problem with this list.

Me neither :-) But I do have problems with insinuations that SRK fans have nothing better to do that vote endlessly on such lists. If they did then RNBDJ would have been ahead of Ghajini :-)

Actually they did but they also voted for Billoo Barber! LOL! Many are unaware that this does not have SRK in a major role!

SRK fans are easily the most aggressive when it comes to polls on the web and so on. Anyway the point here isn’t the list (Dostana isn’t on it, Drona is, so the latter must be bigger than the former?!) but the fact that an Aamir film was able to beat a SRK/Aditya combo. No matter what the other factors (and I know this is hardly a scientific poll) I have never seen this happen before. Never! I think this means something.

Again Akshay is at a disadvantage because he has two major releases as Jay pointed out but also because his core supporters are not as web-oriented as some others. But this is assuredly not true for SRK’s or Aamir’s fans!

SRK fans are the most aggressive? The NaachGaana history speaks for itself! I checked and the voting was not for one top film, BUT 5 choices. So there goes that theory of BB competing with RNBDJ! SRK fans are such fanatics, they are web-savvy as they voted on this poll, but the poor souls do not know which films has him in a lead role and which in a sidey role!

satyam, howcome you always go on shouting about how srk has been taken over in a poll like that outlook one and speak ill of the numerous polls which had him on no. one ahead of all his competitors?
Ghagini’s massive publicity campaign started months back when aamir said he’ll shave his head, offcourse he never did, he has appeared on every possible media event and the cricket match, offcourse noones gonna talk about that, remake of a superhit and a classic but you mentioned rnbdj poster! We all know the history of taran and yashraj and the present of aamir and taran! We all know alongside aamir is a south superstar in a hindi movie and the girl who’s butt big b kept looking at, jiah khan who is superhot! This pole hardly says anything just because the masses hardly know anything about rnbdj! And gtgh in top 10? Even if it was the case i wont mind that because the most awaited movie and right now it truly is ghagini because of amirs publicity whereas srk has hardly talked about rnbdj or has been in the news!
