Vanilla Sky: Movie review by a fan
Had there been a time when you have failed to differentiate between reality and a dream? Had there been a time when your mind failed to perceive whats real and whats not? Had there been a time when you think you have woken up, stopped your alarm clock, and are strolling towards the door when the fact is that you are still asleep????????
Welcome to the fascinating world of Cameron Crowe, or may be the scary world of the director where reality and dreams don’t seem to have any borderline.
David Ames (Tom Cruise) is an affluent, extremely good looking, flirtatious, easy going and did I mention good looking, guy who inherited a publishing house of his father. His life can envy anyone in the world, he has a casual romance with extremely hot Julie, Cameroon Diaz, and even calls her his eff buddy. He has friends from all corners of glamor and wealth, expensive wines, rocking parties and rich lifestyle. Then the life takes an unexpected turn. In his 33rd Bday party, his friend played by Jason Lee, introduces him to Sofia, Penelope Cruz, and the life of David Ames changes forever, for good or bad……
Julie somehow hates the notion of leaving David, though she knows they had nothing but a casual sex life, still had some feelings for David. While coming out of Sofia’s apartment when Julie offers David a ride back home, he couldn’t refuse for old times sake, something he should have. The chat in the car turns into an argument which is not taking them anywhere but a WALL. A highspeed collision sees Julie dying and David loosing his face forever. With a defigured face, extremely low confidence, and company which might be slipping away from his hands, David tries to recollect himself and those around him. He even goes back to Sofia, but then after hiding himself behind a scary mask. Thats when David Ames’s mind finally looses control over recognizing the difference between dreams and realities. David finds himself accused in a murder of someone which he don’t know of, life starts throwing him one surprise after another, and some mysterious man starts coming around him, who seems to have TOTAL CONTROL over the world around him, and worst nightmares of this man starts coming true. But then sometimes to get out of these nightmares all you have to do is…… “Open your eyes”
A plot which is haunting, an end which leaves you with shivers down your spine and performances which can easily be described as once in life time, Vanilla Sky gives you a ride which you would never forget ever in your lifetime. This movie is for those who when go to watch a movie wants to become a part of those, think, guess and feel for the characters. Its not a brain dead movie, but an extremely engaging flick which might leave more questions than answers at the end, but satisfying indeed.
From my side 8/10 with a strong recommendations to every Tom Cruise fan and as well as hater, to come and see, how this superstar can act given the oportunity and -plot.
