  1. These are all sound rules Rks..

  2. rks what about the editing power for 15 min which we had for a short while will it happen again

  3. Rockstar, we have the ability to edit out own posts and the threads within them.. admittedly it would be a lot more convenient to be able to edit all of one’s comments.. but with an every expanding NG community the potential for abuse is great.. if you gave it to a selected few the others would scream ‘bias’.

  4. Rks, I am not getting that screen you have in those links there for the color options.. do you have a different version of wordpress? I might still be on the old one..

  5. satyam all member for a short while got this 15 minute editing previlege not some selected few i guess , and ya since this forum is there to discuss about cinema what about a separate section for regional cinema or the movies from hollywood no offence just a suggestion

  6. Rockstar: everyone who was a member had the privilege for a long time..

Why would I be offended by your suggestion? I personally don’t think there’s enough on regional cinema or Hollywood here to warrant a separate section but you should offer Rks the suggestion.

Anyone is free to put up anything on cinema here. Do you prefer separate sections?

  7. we can have a separe category just like many other category are there as even those few aricle are there get lost out,

well we have the international for hollywood and other articles but nothing for other sort of regional cinema

  8. why am I not able to post on sb/cb chat? Am I banned from there too?

  9. Street: You need to make a self account. Put username and click on profile at right hand side of the chatbox.

Rockstar and street: There is no point in taking the battle on personal front. It OK till you badmouth SRK or Amitabh or Aamir(that also within limits of language decency).

  10. once again rks… u’re be so not fair there. but forget it. never mind. no point n arguing there.

    n yeah thnks.

  11. The point is both of you are wrong though not on equal terms.

Street: I don’t think calling Bachchan’s with those name is a decent forum language. [If you call Bachchan's hypocrite or liar, I don't think any one would object; but if you start calling them Ku*****, then it is not a civil language of interaction.]

Rockstar: Some of the comments were personal to Street. A comment against Bachchan is not against you. It is OK to protest the ‘language’ and ignore the person.

  12. Satyam: Click on the rightmost icon to have the second line appear. I forgot to add in the original post.

  13. Satyam: Added few more lines of explaination in original post. If you still have problem mail me the screen shot in JPEG format [How to get screen shots - press "alt+print scrn" on keyboard, goto start->run-> type mspaint, goto edit->paste (or just press "ctrl+C"). do the editing to hide/remove unwanted portions]. Save as jpeg (file size is small).

  14. rks - how do I even get to Visual mode, I don’t even think I can see that!

  15. ok ignore last request. I found it.

  16. See Link1 where it is marked ‘visual mode’. The default mode of posting is ‘visual mode’. Any direct copy paste works. In ‘code mode’ html tags work[direct copy paste also works but only text is copied, images are left, so IMO ideal for our purpose.]. Like if you want to post a youtube video, take the embed code and paste in ‘code mode’.

  17. Got it, I was never in Visual mode but now I am…I tried it out with new post, let me know if I passed the test - I want full marks!

  18. You can toggle and see how things look in code mode and visual mode. Code mode shows all the html tags and visual would be how it would look on screen.

  19. Thanks Rks, you know the problem was that the visual editor wasn’t checked in my profile. Now I see those options. I’ll try something out.

  20. So you’re saying that I can only embed videos in ‘code’ and not ‘visual’?

In any case the embed feature stopped working for me a long time ago in ‘code’.

  21. Try it once. I will help you through.
ps: The html tags work only in ‘code mode’. I just embedded a video in Jay’s post.

  22. Wow, I was living in the stone age so far!

  23. :) Little discovery tours help in understanding.

  24. rks:are you guys working towards giving us the privilege of editing our own comment which was there earlier?I need it the most as I am more prone to mistakes.

  25. >>I don’t think any one would object; but if you start calling them Ku*****, then it is not a civil language of interaction

call it culture or literacy :-) - i dont agree with the statement above. we are talking about film actors here and not saints. i think we should be able to call them what we want - and in no way does that determine civility.
i think there is a very loose interpretation of ethics here. it seems to apply to some actors, some individuals and not to others. we should either be consistent or let the group find its own equilibrium. i am for the latter - as the former is practically impossible to achieve

  26. Beld:”i dont agree with the statement above. we are talking about film actors here and not saints. i think we should be able to call them what we want - and in no way does that determine civility.”

I will mail you the unscrambled form in email and then you decide if it good for public consumption. I have lived in many part of India and I don’t think you say those words in public about anyone. Probably among friends yes, but not where you have audience of wide variety.

“i think there is a very loose interpretation of ethics here. ”
There is no loose interpretation. If the same word is used for X , Y or Z star I will edit it. Since it is not a personal comment, I won’t say much but members are free to protest.

  27. rks - you and me will never agree on this. or to quote kipling - O East is East and West is West and never the twain shall meet.

It is a loose interpretation not bcoz u will edit if the same word is used for anyone else but what word you think is objectionable and what you dont. that part is pretty subjective.

  28. “It is a loose interpretation not bcoz u will edit if the same word is used for anyone else but what word you think is objectionable and what you dont. that part is pretty subjective.”

Most of the rules/laws are subjective , always prefixed with reasonable. ‘Reasonable’ is used in the sense that how a average/normal person would behave [Q correct me if I am wrong].

  29. Re: “Most of the rules/laws are subjective , always prefixed with reasonable. ‘Reasonable’ is used in the sense that how a average/normal person would behave [Q correct me if I am wrong].”

You are correct RKS. Sometimes when “reasonable” is not there in the statute, the courts will nevertheless read it in; it’s true that the general standard of care (whether we are talking about duties one owes to people around one, how a contract is to be read, etc.) is what a “reasonable person” would do under the circumstances. There is very little claim to absolute objectivity.

[There are some exceptions: for instance, in New York statutory rape is a strict liability crime: i.e. EVEN IF an adult male believes that his sexual partner is >18, she tells him she is >18, but in fact she is <18, then he is out of luck.]

  30. Satyam: Added a doc file explaining how to embed video.

Apparently Q pastes it and it works. But I think if you paste it in ‘visual mode’, it should not work. So I am assuming Q is working in code mode when he is pasting the embed code.

Shoot me any questions if you still have any problem.
