STARDUST SCOOP OF DAY:BIG B Snubbed

Amitabh Bachchan, the Shahenshah of bollywood, may be the biggest icon of bollywood but is not big enough to be invited by Mithun Chakroborty for the premiere of Mimoh’s ‘Jimmy’ held yesterday at a multiplex in Andheri.

Though Mithun had personally called up every known name of bollywood and invited them for the premiere, he chose to snub the big daddy of bollywood, the Bachchan. The veteran bong actor says that he does not know Bachchans well enough to invite them to the premiere.

This statement has come from Mithun Chakroborty, who was a contemporary and a co star of Amitabh Bachchan in two of his films ‘Agneepath’ and ‘Ganga Jamuna Saraswati.’ Amitabh Bachchan had won a national award for his character in ‘Agneepath’ but Mithun Chakroborty was dissatisfied with the final shape of his character in the film and had blamed Big B for chopping his role.

Mithun Chakroborty was apprehensive even on the eve of release of Mani Rathnam’s ‘Guru’     that his role would be chopped off by the director on the instance of Amitabh Bachchan. ‘Guru’ had Mithun playing the role of a media baron, largely based on Ram Nath Goenka, while Abhishek Bachchan was playing the lead character modeled on the lines of Dhirubhai Ambani.

As Amitabh had been going whole hog to promote Abhishek, Mithun’s fear was not unfounded, but fortunately nothing of the sort happened and Mithun Chakroborty’s portion remained important in the film. However, Mithun views this thing more as Mani Rathnam’s stature and style of working than Big B not trying to chop off his role.

Sources say that besides this professional rivalry, the last straw in the relationship between Mithun Chakroborty and Amitabh was Abhishek-Aishwarya marriage, wherein Mithun Chakroborty had not been invited. Mithun took it personally and felt insulted that despite of working with Big B in films, he was not invited to big ticket wedding. And perhaps this was Mithun’s way of getting back at the Bachchan.

Though Shah Rukh Khan could not make it to the premiere yesterday but he had already explained Mithun Chakroborty his position in this regard. Shah Rukh had personally met Mithun and explained that the Kolkata Knight Riders’ match would be played on the same night in Kolkata and his presence at the venue was necessary so he would not be able to attend the premiere.

The invitation had also been extended to Salman Khan, Salim Khan and his family. Mithun has a very good relationship with the Salim Khan’s family, as it was he who had helped him during his struggling days in Mumbai. But Salim Khan does not have a good rapport with Big B and had even written a column in a newspaper criticizing him for his recent actions of donating and taking back land.

Hmm….hmm….seems Mithun had invited everybody who has some sort of rivalry( Shah Rukh, Salman, Salim Khan etc) with Big B…a classic case of ….dushman ka dushman apna dost…..no??
