I promise somewhat irregular posts on (in no particular order) Indian politics, cinema, and anything else that catches my fancy... Why "Qalandar"? So-called "liminal" religious traditions are a particular interest of mine, and "qalandar" is the sort of untranslatable, ambiguous, yet enormously evocative word that for me touches upon and articulates the experience of the sub-continent's "little" traditions in a particularly memorable way...not to mention the fact that in popular lingo the word has more than a merely religious/spiritual connotation, and can mean a bunch of other things, including a smart alec, wannabe, what-have-you...

    A bit too explosion-heavy for my liking, but this is a must-see film for me. Can’t wait for the third one with Harvey Dent/Two Face…still can’t forget the way Joel Schumacher/Tommy Lee Jones ruined him some years ago…

    Looks pretty good. Love the various shots of Batman on the skyscrapers.
    Ledger should be a blast to watch and Bale is always solid!

    btw, I guess we see Two Face in the trailer. There’s one shot where you can see the burns on one side of his face.

    Ledger looks simply amazing. And Aaron Eckhart as Dent looks to be a really inspired choice - he looks every bit the politician-half of Two Face. My most awaited movie of the summer, but perhaps that’s an obvious choice…

    Thanks aditya — am planning on seeing Iron Man tonight…

    What I like about the way Ledger seems to have played the Joker is that there’s a touch of melancholy here; on the evidence of this preview, he’s made the Joker his own (no easy thing to do, to take him out of Nicholson’s shadow)…

    dude eckhart isnt inspirid IMO at all, he’s a spot on harvey dent from the looks of it
    ooo and look at the scene in the trailer where ledger throws maggie off the roof, who needs spoilers

    Jason Todd - I meant “inspired” in a good way. I think Eckhart’s a fine actor and he looks like a terrific Harvey Dent.
