IBOS: Tashan box office opening; U Me aur Hum steady
Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj Films’ first release of the year will have a hard time shattering the opening records as the film has not released on most of the 120+ multiplexes across India, with exceptions being in Tamil Nadu. There are talks the film may screen nationally on majority of multiplexes from Saturday however.
The opening in the single screens for the Akshay Kumar-Saif Ali Khan-Anil Kapoor-Kareena Kapoor starrer has been quite strong however if not hurricane like that was being expected. Delhi-NCR-UP leads along with Hyderabad, Kolkata. Bombay opened reasonably good on 60 single screen prints (90+ would be the expectation). The lack of multiplex tickets did lead to flow of sales towards theaters like Maratha Mandir and Galaxy cinema there however.
The word of mouth on Tashan is not as positive to the extent Aditya Chopra would have been confident it would be. But the film is boasting of multi-star power, big production values and visual appeal. If the multiplexes and Yash Raj work the terms out for Saturday onwards, the weekend can still end up being the biggest of the year.
Released earlier this month, Ajay Devgan’s directorial U Me aur Hum has moved past Krazzy 4, which released on the same day. U Me aur Hum has had a steady run since release. The film can do nett of 25-27 crores. Krazzy 4 may settle for less than 20 crores
